Pay'n'play
Behind this snappy headline - forgive the English version for the sake of simplicity - lies one of the dream golfers' dreams - an "easy-going" experience in terms of registration and the course of play. Simply arrive, pay and then off you go for a round. Oh yes - and perhaps at moderate prices and with little "traffic" on the golf courses.
This doesn't have to remain a beautiful dream if you move away from the winter vacation stream. On the Canary Islands, which are now full of golfers fleeing winter with Gran Canaria and Tenerife and where you can't really do anything without booking a tee time, Fuerteventura offers a small, fine vacation package at moderate prices:
With a sunny 25 degrees, tee times without advance booking, good equipment in a rental bag, green fees between 50 and 75 euros and a friendly "Enjoy your game!" from the smart receptionist.
Fuerte is actually known as a surfer's paradise because of its beautiful long beaches and almost constant, strong winds. In winter, however, the "island of strong winds" scores with four 18-hole courses. There are two varied courses around the airport: the Salinas de Antigua Golf Course, integrated into the coastal dunes, and the Fuerteventura Golf Course, whose 70 bunkers, three lakes and a small river make the game difficult and therefore unique. Nestled between two ranges of hills in the south-east is the Playitas golf course with great greens, a hilly layout and the PGA Golf Academy at the resort of the same name. And in the far south, the Jandia GC has been open again for a year - with its dry streams, ravines and four lakes, it is a real challenge for all levels of player.
The only downside is that there are only a few hotels here that can satisfy a discerning clientele of golfers. Most of them are mighty hotel castles, such as the Barceló with three hotel categories and all-inclusive services, but at least one "Premium Class" for adults only. This separates the wheat from the chaff, especially in the restaurants. In addition to fresh fish dishes and Mediterranean delicacies, hungry golfers will always find delicious grilled steaks and fine Spanish wines after an exhausting game.
