Bavarian golf safari with star cuisine
StarnbergAmmersee is the name of the new brand that also identifies the five-lake region 20 kilometers south of Munich as a golfing Eldorado. Nine TOP golf courses within a radius of 25 kilometers - this already makes the region one of the nationwide leaders in terms of golf course density. Add to that the gourmet accommodation and Michelin-starred cuisine on offer at the Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten. What more could a golfer's heart want?
Lake Starnberg - the "bathtub" of Munich
You have to hand it to the people of Munich, they have probably chosen the best-located bathtub in all of Germany - between the city and the highest mountain, the Zugspitze. In between lies a picture-book landscape that is second to none: With its stately castles, museums and sophisticated lidos, marinas and artists' retreats, villas in pompous parks but also typical Bavarian beer gardens and Lüftlmalerei paintings on the rustic farmhouses. A mix that is particularly popular with Munich's chic crowd, who come here in their convertibles. It is said that around the lake, some 30 millionaires hide away in their villas and cultivate their understatement. But enough of the clichés, what is really still present here is the romantic story of "Ludwig & Sisi": King Ludwig II and his grand cousin Sisi, later Empress Elisabeth of Austria, who often met here on the romantic Rose Island in the lake for an equally romantic rendezvous. Above all, she was a helpful support to him after his incapacitation and accommodation in Berg Castle opposite. As a memorial to his mysterious death in 1886, there is a cross in the lake and a votive chapel in Berg Castle Park. The Roseninsel island near Feldafing is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site and can be reached by ferry.
Golf between Alpine panorama and lake lights
Five lakes once gave the region its name and each of them has its very own character. This is not only true of the three smaller lakes, the turquoise-green Wörthsee with its many lakeside cottages and hidden villas close to the lake, the romantic Pilsensee, which can be easily circumnavigated by bike, and the idyllic Weßlinger See, the smallest of the five. The Ammersee is the third largest lake in Bavaria after the Chiemsee and the Starnberger See and is the most northerly of the Alpine foothills. Artists' studios alternate with rural and stately ways of life, which is why the Ammersee is also known as the "Bauernsee", while the Starnberger See is called the "Fürstensee". Together they offer 150 kilometers of lake experience plus a golfing paradise: First and foremost, the challenging Rieden golf course, the excellent "Leading Golf Club" Starnberg, the traditional Feldafing Golf Club, the 1st ecological Bergkramerhof Golf Club and the natural course at Tutzing Golf Club - to name just a few of the 9 courses here.
Golfing & feasting
The gourmet restaurant Aubergine at the Hotel Vierjahreszeiten in Starnberg has held a Michelin star for 11 years now, making it the only Michelin-starred restaurant in this prestigious resort. With his still young kitchen brigade, star chef Maximilian Moser delights guests with modern seasonal creations that also incorporate various local producers, such as the dairy products of "Andechser Natur". Yes, even golfers who book the four-star superior hotel as a package with reduced green fee prices. The second restaurant in the hotel, "Oliv's", also offers fine cuisine with a Mediterranean touch 365 days a year and the Hemingway Bar right next door serves fine wines from one of the largest rum collections in southern Germany. You should definitely take a look at the seasonally changing highlight and event menus - from live cooking with swing music to the food festival with Breton oysters, grilled Ibérico secreto or truffle pasta from the cheese wheel. The golf package with 2 nights, 3-course menu and 2 rounds of golf is available from 323 euros.
