I feel Slovenia 2!
At the largest international golf trade fair "IGTM" (International Golf Travel Market) in Ljubljana, there was a get-together of the international golf business and the coveted awards.
The golf destinations of the year have been chosen: For North America, Scottsdale scores with 51 golf resorts, some of which are located in the desert. The Dom.Rep. as No.1 for Latin America and the Caribbean is certainly no surprise, just like the European - the Costa del Sol in Spain. For the umpteenth time, "Mauritius" was again chosen for Africa - that is almost inflationary, just like "Hua Hin" in Thailand won for Asia. The only surprise was the Spanish Logroño-La Rioja as "undiscovered golf destination of the year". It was learned that "La Rioja" is the only place where you can play on four golf courses while enjoying the local gastronomy - with the best tapas and the famous Rioja wines. "When you do that, you'll understand why Logroño was declared the 'First Spanish City of Gastronomy' in 2012," explained María Pilar Montes, city councillor for tourism. And we believe her.
There was also little new in the "Golf Resort of the Year" category:
Gleneagles, known from the 2014 Ryder Cup won for Europe, the Fairmont Chateau Whistler in Canada for North America, and Mission Hills once again for Asia.
The sustainability award is always eagerly awaited. Certainly a great honor for the Italian Gardagolf Country Club, which would not necessarily have been considered "resource-efficient". Rather the New Zealand GC Jack's Point Golf. The Al Mouj Golf Course in Oman was honored for "public benefit" and the golf resort in Porto "Vidago Palace" received the special prize. Paulo Ferrera expressed his thanks, saying: "This award is a recognition of the care and responsibility that the entire Green Keeping team applies to its work. We are all very proud of the local environment and want to do everything we can to protect and improve it. We are very grateful for the award and the immeasurable value it brings to our community and our golf course. Anyone who has ever stayed in this palatial 5-star hotel can see for themselves the legitimacy of this award.
In Slovenia, the stylish Cubo Hotel in Ljubljana , the associated Cubo Village and the Cubo-Diners Golf Club in Smlednik near the capital score highly in this respect.
