Best of 2022: Pure joie de vivre on Boa Vista
The Cape Verde Islands had been on my to-do list for a long time. I was actually supposed to go to SAL because a new golf course had just been opened there. However, the fact that it turned out to be the island of Boa Vista was due to the high-ranking visit of Prime Minister Ulisses Correia e Silva, who was there especially for the opening of the new 5-star RIU Karamboa hotel. Accordingly, there was also a rendezvous with the highest ranking members of the hotel group, such as the likeable Joan Trian Riu from the management. It was interesting to hear what else is planned here in terms of tourism and how the RIU Group is also socially involved here on the island. So far, the three RIU's have been the biggest employers on the island: the 5-star Karamboa as an "adults only" hotel, the Palace right next door as a family hotel and the Tuareg in the north of the island. All of them together are a real treat in terms of Creole joie de vivre and offer a relaxed vacation at 5-star level with the insight that you can be more satisfied with less. You learn this from the always cheerful locals who seem to have "being happy" on their agenda. Why the island is absolutely worth a week trip is a story in itself. www.boavistaofficial.com
