#Stay at home - at Lake Chiemsee
The most common word in these times of crisis is probably "stay at home". For the first time, it sounds like being locked up with a bitter corona taste. But it doesn't have to be. Because when else do we all have the chance to see our homeland with new eyes and perhaps even discover the unknown. Chiemgau is full of them and the golf season there has just got off to a cautious start.
Train horse "Chiemsee" and the Chiemsee Golf Card
Four out of twelve for 230 euros is the offer of the Chiemsee Card, although not all courses are located on Bavaria's largest water hazard, Lake Chiemsee. "Golf with lake" is primarily offered by the GC Chiemsee Golf Club Prien, the GC Chieming, the Golf Resort Achental and the GC Höslwang in Chiemgau. Coming from Salzburg, there is also the GC Berchtesgadenerland and from Munich the golf clubs Schloss Elkofen, Schloss Maxlrain and the Golfclub Mangfalltal. The GC Reit im Winkl - Kössen as a former "border course" between Austria and Bavaria, Ruhpolding and the two 9-hole courses, the GC am Obinger See/Ratcliffe and the GC Anthal-Waginger See, are also allowed to join in the 2nd row, so to speak. They all offer an attractive game in terms of layout with a great mountain panorama. The right combination with four out of twelve certainly has the potential for a relaxing golf vacation in white and blue, whether at the resort, on the cozy 9-hole, country links or on the castle course. www.golfcard-chiemsee.de
Where the Chiemgau is still at its most rustic
The Golfclub Höslwang in Chiemgau is a rustic, Bavarian & hearty place. Even the new and modern clubhouse doesn't change that. It is recommended because the surroundings around the 18 holes with the church tower of Höslwang could not be more rustic and the layout itself demands a good level of fitness. Although the wide fairways forgive the hooks and slices, the water hazards, some hidden from the greens, others clearly visible, swallow up a few balls. Plus blind shots over hills - you're lucky if you have a local in your flight. Even if you don't speak much Bavarian.
In the neighboring village of Sonnering, people say "beim Angstl", which serves the best pork knuckles with bowls of dumplings and cabbage and a schnapps afterwards. And in neighboring Eggstätt, you can not only stay at the "17 Seen Hotel" but also go swimming there. www.golfclub-hoeslwang.de.
The small border traffic with six of the 18 holes in Tyrol and twelve of them in Bavaria once made the GC Reit im Winkel-Kössen famous, as it was Europe's first and only cross-border golf course. The initially flat terrain surrounded by the Kaiser Mountains belies the very challenging course and a card here is highly recommended. Just like the 4-star Hotel Peternhof, just a tee shot away. www.gcreit.de
Are you fit in the bunker? Violá - the GC am Obinger See/Ratcliff offers a total of 42 on 9 holes, plus a links ambience and a hay barn as a club restaurant where you can choose between oysters and pork chops. www.dergolfclub.de
You can play golf with the best biathletes on the GC Ruhpolding, which has now been expanded to 18 holes. The course is one of the most beautiful natural courses with a gigantic mountain panorama. It can count 19 Olympic athletes among its members. The course is also part of the Golf-Euregio with a further 12 golf courses in the region, which you can play 10 times free of charge. www.golfclub-ruhpolding.de
Lüftlmalerei & Sterneküche is an offer with resounding success at the "Chiemsee Golf Club Prien" in Bauernberg.
A pure Bavarian experience with hilly farmland between cow pastures and old trees. Right in the middle are the 18 holes of one of the oldest golf clubs in Bavaria. Good luck to those who hit the ball straight here between venerable fir trees, small ponds and farm meadows, otherwise there is a risk of losing the ball. Relaxed golfing with the card could be the solution here, because then you could enjoy the view of the lake on the 7th hole and the Kampenwand on the green of the 3rd hole. "Thanks for the par" is what you say on the 4th hole and you can also score a well-deserved birdie on the 9th - it's also the second easiest hole. The second 9 lead into a different valley with doglegs, hidden greens and ponds. On the 13th in particular, the balls roll due to the steep slope. From the 15th, you head back towards the clubhouse, where you are served Bavarian cuisine and the most beautiful alpenglow of the Chiemgau mountains. www.cgc-prien.de
"An Guat'n"
For over 50 years, Germany's longest-serving 3-star chef Heinz Winkler has been serving up gourmet cuisine par excellence in Aschau, just 10 minutes away, and has already created a monument to himself here during his lifetime with his "Residenz Heinz Winkler". The native South Tyrolean is not only proud of his "Cuisine Vitale" but also of the 15th century history that gives the hotel with its 42 rooms a special flair. A stay in his residence with its cosy hotel bar and gourmet restaurant is perfect for the gourmet golfer who finds his Mecca here. www.residenz-heinz-winkler.de
One club, two courses - that's what the golf club in Chieming , which was founded in 1961 in the middle of the Chiemgau farmland and has been awarded the golden "Golf & Nature" plaque, has to offer. A very relaxed experience for golfers on 18 holes in a natural setting, with the back nine being the most interesting: With many doglegs, blind holes, water with blooming water lilies and high rough that is not stingy with meadow flowers. Incidentally, their descriptions can be found as picture boards on the fairways. The "Super Seven public golf" offer has been available for two years, providing beginners and players without a club or PE with the perfect introduction to the world of golf on a public 7-hole course. The first successes can then be celebrated in the rustic beer garden in front of the clubhouse - until the early hours if need be. www.golfchieming.de

The beautiful vacation course is nestled between old avenue trees and the adjacent polo fields, for which Gut Ising is famous. A vacation there also means pure enjoyment, whether rural or gourmet, wellness in the 2500 square meter SPA and riding pleasure for the whole family.

At GC Berchtesgadenerland in Weng, just outside Salzburg, you can also stay directly on the 18-hole championship course. While the first 9 holes are lined up around the clubhouse with its own hotel, the back nine run through an idyllic valley with a stream, cow pastures and little brooks before returning slightly uphill to the clubhouse with its spacious restaurant terrace. The 3rd tee in particular, a par 5 with a dogleg to the right, offers a wonderful view of Salzburg Fortress, the Untersberg and Gaisberg as well as the pilgrimage church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary near Ainring. Although the "Wengerhof" is only a small country hotel with 10 rooms, it offers a great view of the course and affordable specials (from 210 euros) for a weekend. Not far away is the GC Anthal-Wagingersee, which completes the golf weekend with 9 holes. www.gcbgl.de
Last but not least, a Leading Golf Course of Germany should also have its say, especially as GC Schloss Maxlrain scores with 27 holes. It also has the gold plaque for "Golf and Nature". Brand new are the "Kids tees" on the championship course and the 1st integrated footgolf course since this year. www.golfclub-maxlrain.de
