Golf flirt with Rocca
Recently on a family trip (study trip) in Veneto. Formerly "Undiscovered Golf Destination of the Year 2013", this region between Venice and Lake Garda has now blossomed into one of the most beautiful golf regions in Italy. "Golf in Veneto" with an amazing program, full of golf, wine and Prosecco tastings as well as plenty of time for typical Venetian cuisine, should confirm this.
On top of this, there were two absolute highlights that drew enthusiastic cheers from the participants:
Clinic with Costantino Rocca (CR) and show cooking with star chef Giuseppe D'Anquino. A top experience for every gourmet golfer, especially as "CR" is still regarded as Italy's golfing figurehead. He became famous back in 1995 with his legendary 18-meter putt on the Old Course in St. Andrews. Two years later, he lost the Masters in Augusta to the young Tiger Woods, but won against him as Italy's first Ryder Cup player in 1997. Today, he plays successfully on the European Senior's Tour, which he won in Ireland in 2007. But it's not the victories that make the golf hero so likeable.
As a true Italian, he loves good wine as well as classic Italian cuisine and is therefore very different from our reserved German model golfers Langer and Co. When practising together (clinic) on the driving range at the GC Verona, he gives affable advice on grip, stance and swing and is charming - especially towards the ladies. As a man of pleasure, as he calls himself, he, like us, also appreciates the purist cooking style of Giuseppe D'Anquino and his "Pasta Promodore" at star level. To go with it, we tasted the local "Custoza" white wine, whose vines can also be seen along the golf courses. The following 18 holes with Costantino Rocca in gently undulating terrain with little water, but with a few blind holes, are like a golf lesson - without any hectic pace, with some good advice and lots of jokes.
This makes golfing fun!
