Legends showdown beyond Jo'burg
www.legendhospitality.co.za"_blank"">TheLegend Golf & Safari Resort, around two and a half hours from www.joburg.org.za"_blank"">Johannesburg/a>, lives up to its name in every respect: 22,000 hectares of the Big Five in the Entabeni Safari Game Reserve, the longest golf course in Africa with the highest par 3 in the world and its own "Tribute Course" with 12 of the most interesting holes in the world. Any questions?
Golf with adrenaline
Things have quietened down a little since the hype 9 years ago when the resort opened with a bang. The story about the unconquerable par 3 went around the world at the time and the "facts" alone made the blood run cold: The "Extreme 19", the most dramatic and highest golf hole on the planet, is played as a 361-metre-long par 3 (!) from the striking rock of Hanglip Mountain at an altitude of 430 meters. In other words, you are transported to the top by helicopter and let the wind blow around your nose for the first time. Then your gaze glides over the open wilderness to the 1,600 m2 of green below with the contours of Africa, which seems tiny from above. Pure adrenaline then accompanies the first shot! Everyone has six attempts to put the ball on the green or, even better, into the hole, as there is a prize of 1 million dollars for a hole in one. No one has ever managed this - not even the best of the best golfers. Nevertheless, this spectacle is well worth the 250 euros (for 4 people).
Under the sign of the golf icons
Where else can you follow in the footsteps of world-class golfers and play their tailor-made courses? Here on the 18-hole "Signature Course", Africa's longest course at 7,748 meters, of course. Golf icons from four continents, from Immelmann, Montgomerie and Singh to Harrington and Goosen, have ensured that there is no shortage of variety. Even the German Bernhard Langer immortalized himself here with a short par 3 on hole 4. And this in the middle of the www.sa-travel.de/suedafrika/reise/entabeni-private-game-reserve"_blank"">EntobeniGame Reserve. Lush green fairways, dotted with glowing white bunker landscapes and sparkling lakes, wind through the steppe like a carpet - brilliant splashes of color on an unearthly canvas. And above it all, the huge "nose" of Entobeni Mountain. Simply beautiful to the eye and yet challenging.
Once in a lifetime...
...you want to play one of the most beautiful holes in the world without a challenge, but with muse and all your senses. This is made possible by the 12-hole "Tribute Course", an exact replica of some of the most beautiful and interesting par 3 holes in the world: the 12th and 16th holes of Augusta, the 17th of Sawgrass or the 17th of St Andrews Old Course. Enjoyment is the order of the day here and the score is the least important thing in the world. With a glass of fine Sauvignon Blanc from Kanonkop and the endless expanse of Africa before your eyes, you can then enjoy the authentic African ambience of the lodge and look forward to the safari the next morning.
