In addition to its party image and hippie culture in the trendy markets, Ibiza can also be chilled out and golf-friendly. The quiet side in the east near Santa Eularia des Riu is predestined for this. There you will find 27 holes between the towns of Jesús and Santa Eulalia, which show the alpine side of the island around 7 kilometers from the capital. Ideal for a family outing with guaranteed fun.

Secret tip for 53 years

It's hard to believe, but the first and only golf course on the island was founded in 1972 as "Roca Llisa" with 9 holes. Even today, it is still one of the most interesting practice courses because it offers pretty much every layout spectacle - from bunkers and small lakes to the overhanging pine trees that border the fairways. Twenty years later, in 1992, the 18-hole course was inaugurated under the name "Club de Golf de Ibiza". The two clubs were later merged and operate under the same name. Under the management of the azuLinehotels hotel chain, some holes were improved again in 2017 and the "Hoyo 19" restaurant was opened.

Spectacular landscape with sea views

As you drive through the hilly terrain and lush green vegetation, you feel like you're in the middle of the mountains of Ibiza. The whitewashed club complex with registration, pro store and restaurant offers a fantastic panoramic view over both courses to the sea and the bay of Cala Llonga. The 18-hole course is generally the more difficult one, as it runs up and down hills between pine trees, streams and hidden obstacles. Above all, holes 7, known as "El Everest", because it is steeply uphill, or hole 17, called "Las Gaviotas", which is long, uphill and offers a hidden green as a dogleg. In contrast, the 9 holes on the flat terrain can be played by beginners without any "challenge" and are therefore also suitable for families. The putting green in front of the restaurant terrace is a great place to practise for those who want to become professionals. A visit to the club restaurant is also worthwhile because of the delicious dishes on the menu - from burgers to paella, there is something for every taste,

What makes the town of Eulalia , as it is also known, so worth living in are its natural bays, such as Aigües Blanques or Cala Mastella, as well as family-friendly, gently sloping beaches with crystal-clear water. In the middle of it all is the palm-lined promenade with small cafés and boutiques. Some of the artists who live in Santa Eulalia also like to stroll along here. Their works can be found in the local galleries and stores. The "Riomar" hotel is located directly on the beach promenade with a spacious terrace for lunch and dinner and an adjoining stretch of beach with sun loungers and parasols. You can also browse the hippy markets here: first and foremost the famous "Las Dalias" and the "Punta Arabi". The former is located on the outskirts of Sant Carles de Peralta and is laid out like a labyrinth with mostly shaded "alleyways". Many of the items are original, such as clothes, scarves and even shoes made from bamboo fibers with traditional Ibizan patterns. In between, there are plenty of food stalls, open-air restaurants and bars. It's the same in Punta Arabi, a somewhat smaller and more manageable market, in the middle of which the brand new Ferguson Hotel is located in a Garden of Eden right by the sea - the best example of purist Ibiza architecture. Nearby is the Aiyanna beach club, known for its boho design, laid-back music, cocktails and good food. An ideal place for a chilled beach day.

The culinary highlight of a trip to Ibiza is certainly a dinner in Ibiza's brand new and first 5-star design hotel "Nobu". The restaurant of the same name, run by Robert de Niro and his Japanese friend Nobuyuki Matsuhisa, serves upscale Japanese fusion cuisine. Wagyu fillet tataki style, scallop carpaccio, lobster with shiitake mushrooms in a ginger and lemongrass dressing and matcha tea parfait with candied pecans for dessert are a real explosion of flavors. You dine directly on the sandy beach of Talamanca Bay with a spectacular view of the sea and the city of Ibiza opposite. Despite the modern, minimalist design, the Mediterranean feel is created by the local influences of designer furniture, natural wood elements, handcrafted ceramics and stylish details in shades of white, gold and blue. Here too, the pool area is transformed into a party location with music, much to the delight of the youngsters. But at least there are also lounge beds in the quieter part, right on the beach, where you can relax after a hard day's golf.
