Fuerte for all

The second largest island in the Canary Islands is an all-rounder and a welcome refuge, especially on dreary winter days. Whether for hikers, cave climbers, surfers, kiters, beach runners, wellness freaks or simply those who don't like it. The fact that there are also four 18-hole courses is not necessarily a priority, but it is definitely an option. There were no ifs or buts when it came to choosing a hotel: the new Barceló Beach Resort, which offers a great selection of culinary delights, entertainment and wellness with four hotels under this name.

That's why Fuerteventura

Of all seven Canary Islands, "Fuerte" can boast the most beautiful and longest beaches.
In the meter-high, fine sand dunes of Corralejo in the north and on the kilometer-long sandy beaches on the Jandia peninsula in the south and pretty much in the middle of the beach of Caleta de Fuste, where the four Barceló hotels are also located: Barceló Fuerteventura Royal Level Adults Only, Royal Level Family Club, Barceló Mar and Castillo, all now operating under the name Barceló Fuerteventura Beach Resort. As different as they are, they are united by the magnificent view of the sea, the large bay with sandy beach and the many possibilities - from the dine-around concept in the 14 bars and restaurants, the sports facilities to the SPA and Thalasso Center. Golfers - whether alone or as a couple - will appreciate the suites in the Royal Level Adults Only. 129 of them are grouped in a Garden of Eden with a small terrace and enough space inside for 2 people with golf luggage. A private pool and the Terra Sana buffet restaurant are just for these guests. Here at the pool bar, golfing experiences are exchanged until late or the barman's signature cocktails are sampled.

The excursion programme, which can be organized by the German management, is highly recommended. This of course includes a tour of the island, first to the north to the Parque Natural de Corralejo, where on a fine day you can see as far as Africa, 100 km away. Or to the east coast, which lives from the beauty of the various sandy beaches and bays with shimmering Caribbean sea. The west coast, on the other hand, is rather barren, rocky and sometimes reminiscent of lunar crater landscapes. The town of Corralejo is also known as "little Italy" due to its many Italian restaurants and "Lajares" is considered the surfing hotspot here. In El Cotillo, we ate the best tuna right by the sea in "El Aucla" and devoured an original paella with local wine before enjoying a quick tapas sundowner on the black beach in Pozo Negro. The pretty harbor town of Gran Tarajal, on the other hand, has the most beautiful sunrise to offer. If you then drive back across the island, you will experience a few surprises: High mountain ranges with rocky outcrops, African-style palm oases and, time and again, windmills and white houses on a copper-colored background. In between, the tranquil village of Betancuria with its magnificent 17th century church, Antigua with the Museo del Queso Majorero with the best goat's cheese in the country and Puerta des Rosario, the capital of the island with its colorful murals.

Pay & Play

Golfing on Fuerte means: a game at a sunny 25 degrees, good equipment in a rental bag, and green fees between 70 and 90 euros. There are two varied golf courses around the airport, the
GC Salinas de Antigua
integrated into a coastal dune landscape and the
Fuerteventura golf course
whose 70 bunkers, three lakes and a small river make the game difficult and therefore unique. Nestled between two ranges of hills in the southeast of the
Playitas golf course
with great greens, a hilly layout and the PGA Golf Academy at the resort of the same name. And in the very south, the
Jandia GC
with its dry streams, ravines and four lakes, a real challenge for every level of player. The Barceló hotels are ideally located for all these courses and you can arrange to play golf over breakfast.
