Miami SoooBE!
SoBe, the synonym for "South Beach" - and for a very special lightness TO BE! Because Miami is flashy, shrill, sexy and constantly reinventing itself. And so it's thanks to an exciting yoga trend called Budokon® Yoga that I, as a passionate yogini, ended up in Miami Beach. Martial arts master and hatha yoga teacher Cameron Shayne teaches his extravagant style of yoga there, in which classic yoga asanas and positions from traditional martial arts styles flow seamlessly into one another.
I discover the heroic samurai in me as I fend off imaginary attackers from the shadows and draw my fictitious bow. My conclusion: a dynamic and aesthetic fusion of two very different disciplines, and very demanding in terms of strength, stamina and balance.
Miami really does fulfill all the US clichés. I feel like I'm in a music video at the ultra-cool pool of my luxury hotel, the Delano South Beach, THE style icon among beach hotels in divine Philippe Starck design. Extreme bling bling and lots of artificial beauty cheer up the eye, the focus is entirely on the body! A whole new Miami vibe can also be felt. Because a healthy lifestyle is very much in vogue right now! No café in Miami seems to be able to get past the green smoothie, you can buy organic products straight from the farm at hip neighborhood markets, and even the Delano is focusing on eco-consciousness and detox in the spa, in the cuisine and in my suite: my heart leaps for joy when I spot the products from the trendy cult natural cosmetics label Malin and Goetz in the bathroom. Peppermint shampoo and rum body wash make me instantly happy and are even biodegradable!
I walk past countless runners, sun worshippers and a Tai Chi group on the gloriously white beach. I ignore the bodybuilders admiring their workout on Muscle Beach near Ocean Drive with its pretty Art Deco houses. Because a unique yoga initiative awaits me right on the beach, between cheerfully colorful Life Guard houses. At 3rd Street Beach Yoga, people meet daily at sunrise and sunset for open yoga sessions. All you need is a beach towel and a donation, and the view of the ocean is included. Pure magic: the Full Moon Meditation!
