Jamaica: New connections from Switzerland on the way

Edelweiss Air strengthens Jamaica's tourism market

More flight options, more visitors

Jamaica's tourism industry is getting a major boost: Edelweiss Air, the Swiss leisure and charter airline and sister company of Swiss International Air Lines, has announced that it will offer two direct flights per week from Zurich to Montego Bay from winter 2025. The announcement was made at the international tourism trade fair FITUR in Madrid, Spain.

According to Hon Edmund Bartlett , Jamaica's Minister of Tourism, this new service will open up the Swiss travel market and particularly attract the interest of luxury tourists. "The additional Edelweiss Air flights will appeal primarily to Swiss travelers and open up numerous opportunities for luxury tourism, which is particularly attractive to this target group. This fits perfectly with Jamaica's strategy to promote our many luxury offerings and attract more travelers from this segment through the Swiss flight network," Bartlett explained.

More flexibility for European travelers

In addition to the existing Thursday flight, an additional flight will be offered on Mondays from winter 2025. This expansion not only increases flexibility, but also capacity for European travelers who want to experience Jamaica's unique tourism offerings.

"More importantly, this expanded service will mean an additional 3,500 seats of capacity, resulting in a total of 7,000 seats for winter 2025/2026 - and potentially more. This is a significant milestone in our efforts to expand air connectivity and reach our target of five million visitors by 2025," Bartlett added.

Successful partnership with Edelweiss Air since 2021

Edelweiss Air started in 2021 with a summer service from Zurich to Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay (MBJ). Since then, the collaboration has grown steadily and shows the potential to further develop the continental European market.

Donovan White, Director of the Jamaica Tourist Board, emphasized the range of Jamaica's tourism offerings: "We have an immense variety of experiences to offer and we are ready to welcome more visitors from this highly lucrative European market to experience our world-renowned hospitality, breathtaking landscapes and rich cultural heritage."
