February: OLM Nature Escape ** ** s
Boiling summiteer in the OLM
In the new "OLM People" series, guests at the Eco-Aparthotel OLM in the South Tyrolean Puster Valley will be accompanied for a day by particularly deserving people. The series kicks off on May 24, 2025 with extreme mountaineer Reinhold Messner, who - together with his wife Diane Messner - will hike to various culinary stops and even stand at the stove in the evening. A culinary journey with Reinhold Messner? Probably a first!
Big Minds in Sand in Taufers: The energy self-sufficient OLM puts together exciting packages for its guests, with the focus on special people. The first of these is Reinhold Messner from Bressanone/Brixen, who will provide guests with a few insights while hiking and cooking.
Culinary stages with the record holder
Together with his wife Diane Messner, he will travel to Mühlwald by bus in the morning. They are accompanied by OLM manager Astrid Hellweger and cheese sommelier Martin Pircher, as three cheese dairies are visited on a sociable and communicative hike. At Eggemoa, Mittermairhof and Hochgruberhof, the importance of rural cheese production in the valley will be explained, including tastings. With the captivating anecdotes of the likeable extreme mountaineer, the hiking stages will fly by!
Back at the OLM, a kitchen chat with Reinhold, Diane and culinary chef Berni Aichner takes place in the evening. Front cooking focuses on local barley with fresh mountain herbs. The Kuenhof from Brixen provides the perfect wine accompaniment. After countless accompanied hikes, the mountain professional is venturing into unknown territory in the show kitchen - probably a first!
OLM: New energy concept creates complete independence
Owner Christian Lechner, who comes from the valley, sees genuine sustainability not as an advertising phrase, but as a mission for the future. As the first vacation resort in South Tyrol and probably in the Alpine region, the 4-star superior aparthotel is completely energy self-sufficient. A unique combination of hydropower, photovoltaics and, last but not least, geothermal energy ensures a surplus of energy.
The 33 residential units are embedded in warm solid wood and convey the cozy atmosphere of a modern alpine pasture. Large glass fronts open up a view of the picturesque landscape of the Ahrntal valley from the bed. 80 percent of the apart-suites have a kitchenette as well as their own sauna and free-standing bathtub, both of which once again offer an impressive natural panorama.
In some of the suites, there are separable work areas to allow guests to work from home in the South Tyrolean mountains for a while. Guests with dogs will also find their perfect vacation home in the ApartSuites facing directly onto the Alpine meadows.
The 60-meter inner circle of the aparthotel is designed as a wild relaxation garden with a natural bathing pond in keeping with the eco concept. Thanks to the hotel's own electricity, guests can also swim with a clear conscience in the year-round heated, 25-metre-long sports pool, which extends from the indoor sauna and relaxation rooms into the open air.
