April: Kastens Hotel Luisenhof

Since 1856, the Kastens Hotel Luisenhof has been a defining feature of the hospitality industry in Hanover

Since its founding in 1856, the Kastens Hotel Luisenhof has been an integral part of Hanover’s cityscape and regional hotel history. With this hotel, Heinrich Kasten realized his vision of an establishment that combines elegance, quality, and personal hospitality. Over generations, the business has been continuously refined and today stands for precision craftsmanship, sincere service, and a deep understanding of modern hospitality.

Around the turn of the century, the hotel became a social hub of the city, shaped by Hanover’s reputation as a city of horsemen and a trade fair destination. After the founder’s death in 1893, his son Friedrich Kasten carried on his life’s work. In 1906, he had the façade redesigned in the Art Nouveau style, thereby setting an architectural benchmark. Between 1914 and 1916, the construction of the “Luisenhof” created a second, generously designed building with 130 beds, which quickly gained national recognition.

In May 2008, the hotel became the first—and so far only—hotel in Hanover to be awarded five stars by DEHOGA. Since summer 2011, it has held the highest classification as a Five-Star Superior Hotel. The Kastens Hotel Luisenhof offers its guests the highest level of service and comfort. This includes, among other things, a 24-hour reception with check-in, concierge service, daily turndown service, doorman, chauffeur, and limousine service, valet parking, professional laundry service, and electric vehicle charging stations.

Today, the Kastens Hotel Luisenhof features a total of 149 individually designed rooms that impress with their cozy atmosphere and unique character. Guests can choose from four room categories: Standard, Superior, Deluxe, and Executive. The offerings are complemented by junior suites, signature suites, and apartments for long-term stays. All rooms combine the hotel’s history with contemporary, high-quality amenities.

The meeting and banquet rooms at the Kastens Hotel Luisenhof feature an elegant ambiance, plenty of natural light, and modern event technology. Flexible room layouts, personalized service, and high-quality cuisine provide the ideal setting for meetings, conferences, and stylish events in the heart of Hanover.

From the cozy bar, guests can enjoy a view of Luisenstraße with its numerous elegant shops. It is an ideal spot to observe the lively city life. The central location of the Kastens Hotel Luisenhof also provides excellent access to the city’s cultural institutions and attractions. The amenities are complemented by a stylish fitness and sauna area on the 6th floor: modern exercise equipment, a Finnish sauna, a steam bath, and a relaxation area are available across approximately 220 m². The panoramic view over the rooftops of Hanover is particularly appealing, making a visit to the wellness area a special experience.

Since January 2024, Marc Biewald has been at the helm of this historic hotel as managing director.

Cuisine with history: MARY’s Restaurant

MARY’s Restaurant plays a special role within the hotel, uniquely combining the culinary art and history of the Kastens Hotel Luisenhof. Named after Mary Sdralek, granddaughter of founder Heinrich Kasten and a defining figure in the hotel’s history, the restaurant pays tribute to a hostess whose spirit continues to resonate today: characterized by attentiveness, reliability, and personal dedication.

The culinary signature of MARY’s Restaurant is shaped by a closely coordinated team led by Executive Chef Nicolas Görner and Jan Krüger, sommelier and F&B Manager (Bailliage of Lower Saxony of the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs). Together, they develop menus with a clear regional focus and contemporary interpretation. The focus is on artisanal precision, high-quality products, and a minimalist, clean flavor profile.

A significant milestone in the hotel’s culinary development occurred in 2025 with the admission of the Kastens Hotel Luisenhof into the renowned Chaîne des Rôtisseurs. This membership recognizes the culinary excellence of the establishment and underscores its commitment to combining classic culinary traditions with modern haute cuisine.
