Priceless experiences in Darwin's footsteps
A guest at the Heritage Resort Bel Ombre Mauritius
Go where few others get to go. Experience nature where it is still pristine and priceless impressions almost around the clock: guests at the luxurious Heritage Resort Bel Ombre Mauritius can follow in the footsteps of the famous naturalist Charles Darwin. Guests at the five-star resort have the opportunity to discover the fascinating island paradise in a completely new way.
Luxurious residence, adventurous nature
Mauritius is known for its white beaches, crystal-clear water and coconut palms swaying in a gentle breeze. The island has long been a dream destination for many people. Charles Darwin also stopped here on his round-the-world voyage with the HMS Beagle. The year was 1836, and as the explorer kept a meticulous diary, it is well documented where he stayed in Mauritius. Together with an experienced guide, guests of the Heritage Resort Bel Ombre Mauritius go to the very places where Darwin found himself. For example, they will climb the third highest mountain, Le Pouce. When Darwin climbed this mountain over 180 years ago, he was one of the first people to reach its 812-metre-high summit.
In Black River National Park, guests visit the geological phenomenon of the "Seven Colored Earth" and the legendary giant tortoises that have found their home here. The animals live for up to 150 years and only just missed Darwin's visit. One of the most impressive places on the island is the Chamarel waterfall. The water plunges down from a height of 80 meters. You need to plan a whole day if you go on the Mauritian Wildlife Foundation's island eco-tour. You can explore the small offshore islands of Ile aux Aigrettes, Ile de la Passe and the rocky island of Ile aux Fouquets by speedboat.
And after a day out in nature, where guests learn all sorts of interesting facts from the sheer endless knowledge of their guides, they return to the Heritage Bel Ombre on the south coast of Mauritius. It consists of two five-star hotels and offers its guests twelve restaurants, a golf course, the Frédérica nature reserve, a beach club, kids', teens' and baby club and various sports facilities.
