The luxury of silence
Glamping in Oman under the stars
In our modern and fast-paced world, we rarely have the opportunity to completely leave everyday life behind and simply enjoy being. There are few places where we are not accessible and far away from the hustle and bustle of the big city. One of the last of these is the desert. Surrounded by endless vastness and unbelievable silence, you have unique experiences that will probably last a lifetime.
A million stars - instead of five
In Oman, the German tour operator Canvas Club offers its guests the opportunity to experience the unique adventure of an overnight stay in the desert. With great love for the country, the culture and its inhabitants, the staff create magical experiences in the desert. The journey begins shortly after the oasis city of Nizwa, when the spectacular formations of the Hajar Mountains slowly disappear behind you. The SUV is swapped for desert ships: you are carried leisurely through the Wahiba Desert on the back of a camel. With every dune, everyday life recedes into the distance. It is an unforgettable moment when the sun slowly sets and millions of stars gradually appear in the sky.
And then, suddenly, the silhouette of three tents illuminated by torches appears on the horizon. Then the guests have reached the Canvas Club Camp. By torchlight, the chef serves a three-course meal for the few guests, who spend the night in large glamping tents. Precious fabrics, fine carpets, artfully embroidered cushions, oriental candlesticks and elaborately crafted wooden furniture as well as a comfortable bed complete the glamorous camping experience. There is even a "bathroom" with a hot water shower - powered by solar energy - and a toilet.
Those who embark on the desert adventure soon realize how supposed problems are put back into perspective in the face of endless space and silence. The cell phone becomes a camera, you are at one with yourself, hear your inner voice clearly and distinctly again and feel infinite gratitude. The extraordinary flair of your stay in the desert intensifies the next morning when the sun slowly rises and bathes the dunes in golden light. Then there's bread baked around the campfire, freshly squeezed juices, omelettes and Arabic tea, before guests either meet Bedouins and learn all about life in the desert from them or simply indulge in the extraordinary flair of the camp. A day of swimming in warm natural pools in Oman's most famous oasis, Wadi Bani Khaled, is also possible.
Overnight stays in the desert are possible as part of round trips or exclusive glamping experiences from October to early April.
