Uruguay
Off the beaten track, the small country of Uruguay welcomes its visitors with miles of pristine beaches, wide open skies and one of Latin America's most cosmopolitan capitals. Thanks to its high standard of living and the hospitality of its people, Uruguay is a wonderful place to travel, yet the country attracts fewer tourists than its neighbors Brazil and Argentina.
Food in Uruguay - Hearty beef as a specialty
Uruguayan cuisine can be compared to Argentinian cuisine, as the differences between the two cuisines are fairly small, but still present. The main food and specialty of both countries is a hearty beef, but both the types of beef and the cut of meat differ from each other. The juicy "pulpo" is probably the most widespread steak in Uruguay and a delicious specialty. But pork, chicken and mutton are also on the menu in Uruguay and are popular dishes. Most Uruguayans eat French fries, rice and various marinades as a side dish. Sausages such as chorizo (paprika sausage) are also very popular.
