Hamburg

Culinary world tours, art from the chancellor and neighborhood tours from Hanseatic to hip make Hamburg the "High in the North" again this winter.

Traveling in the bubble is all the rage this winter: our CC authors from Hamburg, Frankfurt, Berlin and Munich traveled to the outskirts of their hometowns to hotels that are usually under the radar of connoisseurs: close to nature, secluded, family-run, but with great class. Corona-related travel restrictions thus served as an eye-opener for the hospitality jewels right on the doorstep. An extraordinary CC hotel test in the German "winter wonderland". Find out where you can now find pleasure, well-being, wellness or romantic domiciles selected by the CC editorial team.

There are also the latest city tips for anyone interested in visiting Germany's exciting cities in times like these. Because one thing is certain. The great hotels and restaurants will welcome us again, hopefully before the end of the year.

Songs of praise for the Hanseatic city can even be heard this year from the otherwise rather reserved people of Hamburg themselves. Many stayed at home due to Corona and enjoyed the open-air fun on their doorstep in months of sunshine. The Alster, Elbe, canals and the floundering countryside attracted more attention than ever before. In addition, Hamburg is increasingly becoming a cycling city - even if this information tends to fall on deaf ears in winter. In any case, you can always go for a stroll. In the numerous shopping malls, Hamburg's cold drizzly weather can't harm you. And because the number of infections has fallen thanks to lockdown light in November and the ban on overnight stays for tourists, it should be possible to visit our pearl again during the Christmas season.

What makes Hamburg attractive in times of Corona?
At the moment, i.e. during the lockdown light, it's still attractive to go shopping. With blue skies and sunshine in November, we were also able to enjoy the greenery and stroll along the Alster and Elbe rivers.

Which offer do your guests particularly love?
Our hotel's own launch! Whether we're picking up our guests after a visit to the Elphi or using the boat for weddings or family outings, the pretty little ship is a source of great fascination.

Where can you find the best luxury products in terms of fashion and design?
The density of such boutiques is probably highest in Eppendorf. My favorite boutique "Harm Jopp Jerseys" with subtle business chic is just around the corner in Hegestraße. Pöseldorf is of course also a chic district for browsing.

What is your favorite restaurant?
Hanna Saliba in the Alsterarkarden is the perfect host, and his mazza are the best I know.
I know.

Eat & Drink

You can taste the world in Hamburg. In addition to Michelin-starred temples such as The Table, Bianc or 100/200 and top fish restaurants such as Jelly Fish, or Fischbeisl as well as popular gourmet Italian restaurants such as Gallo Nero or Osteria da Francesco, culinary wanderlust can be satisfied in numerous ethnic eateries. The Dim Sum Haus brings back memories of Hong Kong. At Ollita Peruana, the Machu Picchu rises up before the mind's eye with ceviche and pisco sour. And if you want to take a detour to the land of dream beaches in Eppendorf, fork into the Thai-Gourmet-Imbiss.

See

Some exciting exhibitions are on in winter. For example at the Kunsthalle, where "Max Beckmann - female-male" (until 21.01.) can be seen. In the Deichtorhallen, you can admire the works of South African world star William Kentridge, who incidentally also created the label for the luxury wine Château Mouton-Rothschild 2016 (until 18.04.). A delightful excursion with plenty of fresh Hamburg air takes you by ferry through the harbor to Teufelsbrück and, after a short walk, into the beautiful Jenisch Park. In the beautiful Jenisch House, once the summer residence of Martin Johann Jenisch, you can admire the diverse collection of the travel-loving senator (until 18.01.). A stone's throw away, the Ernst Barlach House boasts the exhibition "Chancellor's Art". 100 works from the private collection of Helmut and Loki Schmidt commemorate the celebrity couple's passion for collecting (until 31.01.).

Shopping

The wide Jungfernstieg with Alsterhaus and jeweler Wempe is now reserved for pedestrians and cyclists, which also largely spares the rest of the city center from heavy car traffic. The chic Eppendorf attracts visitors with top-class boutiques, delis and eateries. And of course there is also the pretty Pöseldorf between Alster and Mittelweg. In the Schanze district and further along Weidenallee and Weidenstieg, more and more stores are setting up that offer fashion away from the mainstream. They are aimed at the young families in the district, who are often recruited from the well-paid creative and IT scene.
