After Hurricane Melissa , the Jamaica Inn is open again - and continues its commitment to environmental and marine protection. On January 24, 2026, swimmers of all ages and abilities took part in the "Swim for the Sanctuary" race. The events ranged from 500 meters to 5 kilometers as well as a relay. Proceeds benefit the White River Fish Sanctuary, a 370-acre protected area along approximately 3.5 miles of shoreline between St. Ann and St. Mary. Founded together with the local fishermen's association, the initiative has been training local fishermen as conservation officers, promoting coral rearing programs and actively involving communities and young people in environmental education.
