Vacation in the castle
Thirlestane Castle in Scotland becomes the new Masterpiece Estate of the Oetker Collection
Only a few hand-picked private estates and vacation residences are included in the Masterpiece Estates portfolio in the Oetker Collection. They all have to meet high standards of hospitality and impress with their history. Thirlestane Castle, nestled in the idyllic countryside of the Scottish Borders region, has plenty of history. The 16th century castle has been home to the Maitland family for 400 years. Now guests can also experience the estate as a private retreat for their vacation with family and friends.
Royal vacation feeling in the Highlands
A total of up to 16 guests can stay at Thirlestane Castle. From the outside, it impresses with an imposing façade reminiscent of a fairytale castle, while inside guests can expect eight bedrooms, each with its own bathroom. They are accommodated in five apartments, each of which is equipped with its own kitchen. The luxurious accommodation can be rented individually or as a group. Two elegant lounges, the "State Drawing Room" and the wood-paneled "Panelled Room" can be shared. Guests who do not wish to self-cater and cook in the Victorian kitchen can be pampered by the Estate Team. The host is happy to organize private catering by award-winning chefs.
It is also the host who is on hand to assist guests with all their wishes throughout their stay. The host not only knows the most exciting stories about the estate, but also helps his guests to organize a variety of activities around and on the estate. For example, guests can go horse riding, stalking, practice their accuracy at clay pigeon shooting, hit a few balls on one of the first-class golf courses nearby or go for long walks through the moors and forests of the Scottish Highlands.
The host arranges spa treatments as well as whisky tastings, private concerts by the bagpiper or an evening with a local storyteller. If you want to experience Scotland's culture at its most authentic and in a special setting, Thirlestane Castle is the place to be. You can even gain an insight into areas of the castle that are normally closed to guests. The landlord Edward Maitland-Carew himself takes visitors on a guided tour of the most private areas of the estate.
