A Mandarin Oriental Ritz for Madrid
Opening planned for early summer 2021
Following a three-year renovation phase, the Mandarin Oriental Ritz, Madrid is set to open soon. It celebrates César Ritz's pioneering spirit and, with its central location, five outstanding restaurants and bars and unique wellness and fitness facilities, is set to become the most luxurious hotel in Madrid, if the operators have their way.
Hotel icon in Belle Époque style
The hotel itself is not new. It opened its doors for the first time 110 years ago. It was built at the behest of King Alfonso XIII, who realized during a trip through Europe that there was no hotel in Spain worthy enough to accommodate European aristocrats and other illustrious guests. The French architect Charles Mewes and the Spanish architect Luis de Landecho took care of the realization. The most famous companies in the country and from all over the world were entrusted with the furnishings. The carpets, for example, came directly from the royal tapestry.
After just two years of construction, the hotel opened with a lavish celebration attended by the king and other members of the royal family. After an eventful history with many famous guests, such as Madonna, Mata Hari, Hemingway and Ava Gardner, great ups and downs, a new era will be ushered in in early summer 2021. The three-year renovation and conversion phase was the longest and most extensive in the hotel's entire history. It resulted in 153 luxurious rooms and suites as well as five restaurants and bars. They were all designed, developed and realized by the well-known Spanish chef Quique Dacosta. Together with his team, he serves his excellent creations in the Signature Restaurant overlooking the hotel's famous garden, as well as in the Palm Garden, the open-air The Ritz Garden and the Palm Court. A champagne bar with a tapas menu and The Ritz Bar complete the offer.
Oasis in the big city
The hotel is located in the heart of the Retiro District, next to the Prado Museum, right in the historic "Golden Art Triangle" with Madrid's most important museums. It is also not far from the Financial District. And while you can enjoy the vibrancy of the Spanish metropolis outside, you will find places of peace and relaxation inside the hotel. For example, guests have access to new fitness and wellness facilities. These include a heated indoor pool as well as experience showers, a vitality pool, a fitness center and a treatment room for beauty treatments and massages.
