Chill out against the Venice skyline
What a feeling! Sun, a pool, and cocktails with a view of St. Mark’s Square—just a 15-minute boat ride away from the hustle and bustle, the JW Marriott Venice offers the ultimate Dolce Vita: a private island resort that transforms Venice into a glamorous wellness oasis.
Splashing around in the pool with a prime view of St. Mark’s Square , the sun on your skin, carpaccio, pasta, and fried fish under the starry sky, laid-back lounge music, delicious cocktails, and the feeling of being at a luxury resort. Midsummer temperatures at the end of September—we’re not in Mykonos or Saint-Tropez, but at the JW Marriott Venice, just a 15-minute boat ride from St. Mark’s Square, getting to know Venice from a completely different angle. An autumn getaway in the lagoon city—that sounds like culture and art in La Serenissima, which you usually have to share with countless tourists. Here we find Venice as a top-tier midsummer wellness and feel-good hotspot. Because we’ve landed on the 16-hectare private island Isola della Rose—named for its lush rose gardens—where you feel like you’re hardly ever crossing paths with anyone. An experience of simply taking a vacation in the midst of nature. And with a Venetian cherry on top: the free shuttle boat takes us to St. Mark’s Square in just a few minutes, from where we can set out to explore our dream city.
The advantages of staying at the JW Marriott Venice rather than right in the heart of Venice are obvious: The rooms and villas at the Resort & Spa—which, by the way, is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year—are elegantly styled by star designer Matteo Thun and generously designed—which means plenty of space to relax, especially in the retreat area of our 145 m² maisonette villa with a terrace. From this retreat, we take a leisurely stroll through olive groves and rose gardens to the spa—the largest in Venice, with 8 treatment rooms!—enjoy an excellent massage with Maria Galland products, and then: Wow, what a view! From the outdoor infinity pool, you look out onto the Campanile, San Marco, and Salute. Hardly a wish remains unfulfilled, yet our stomachs make themselves known: So enough sunbathing, back to the stylishly decorated main building and up to the 6th floor for dinner at the Sagra Roof Top Restaurant, one of four on the island. The motto everywhere: Farm to Table; vegetables and herbs come from the island’s own garden. At first, the sight of the backdrop almost takes our breath away: Nowhere else can you enjoy such a magnificent 360-degree view of Venice and the lagoon! The menu easily lives up to the view: imaginative antipasti dishes, pasta with vegetables, truffles, or clams, Fiorentina steak, and plenty of fresh fish—we choose the sea bass in a salt crust, simply delicious! – and endless dessert temptations, from classic tiramisu to ice cream and fruit, all the way to incomparably delicious chocolate profiteroles.
The next day at the Rose Bar , we learn how to mix extraordinary signature drinks in the cocktail class, such as the Mediterranean Dream with mezcal, Chartreuse, and olive oil, or the Isola delle Rose with Aperol, gin, and rosemary. Sounds daring, tastes delicious! At the Kids Club, the little ones can have fun while parents relax at the spa; you could also let off some steam on the two new padel courts, visit the church—which is also available for rent for events—and much more. And every half hour, the free shuttle boat departs, cruising through the lagoon to St. Mark’s Square—which is a fantastic experience in itself. Last but not least: at the end of it all, one of the most beautiful cities in the world is waiting to be discovered!
Conclusion: A relaxing vacation in Venice doesn’t get any better than this: staying on a private island in a 16-hectare island resort with olive groves, rose gardens, and a large park, a fantastic spa, and gourmet delights with the best view. “La migliore vista su Venezia” – just a 15-minute boat ride away from the lagoon city.
