Luxury hotels as movie sets
Film sets are often nothing more than that: backdrops. But in many cases, they are real locations. For example, when secret agents need a place to sleep, friends make Las Vegas unsafe or Hollywood scriptwriters need a home base for urban exploration. These 7 luxury hotels are familiar from films and series:
Lost in Translation (2008)
The actor Bob Harris (Bill Murray) travels to Tokyo. His star has long since passed its zenith, which is why his assignment is a disdainful commercial for whiskey. He stays at the Park Hyatt Tokyo. This occupies the top 14 floors of the Shinjuku Park Tower, which is located in the center of the lively district. One night, Bob meets Charlotte at the hotel bar. The two strike up a conversation and quickly become friends - united by jet lag, melancholy and humor, they roam the unfamiliar city.
Hangover (2009)
The first part of the now legendary comedy movie about a bachelor party that gets out of hand is set in Las Vegas. Phil, Stu, Alan and Doug set off to really let it rip before Doug's upcoming wedding. They drink Jägermeister on the hotel roof and then wake up in a trashed suite. A tiger lives in the bathroom, they find a baby in the closet, Doug has disappeared and nobody can remember anything ... And what's more, the suite they've destroyed isn't a cheap one. They have stayed at Caesars Palace on the Las Vegas Strip. Cost: around 2000 euros/night.
Midnight in Paris (2011)
Hollywood screenwriter Gil Pender (Owen Wilson) and his fiancée Inez (Rachel McAdams) are in Paris. Gil experiences the city from an unusual perspective, including the Belle Époque and the 1920s. The romantic comedy film, for which Woody Allen won an Oscar (best screenplay), is set in many well-known Parisian sights. You can also see the restaurant "Le Grande Véfour" and the Musée de l'Orangerie. Gil and Inez stay at the Hotel Le Bristol. Located on Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré, it is considered one of the most luxurious hotels in the city.
Skyfall (2012)
Bond, James Bond (Daniel Craig) sets out on his 23rd mission in the original spy thriller series to save his superior "M" from Raoul Silva. Because he has only one mission: to get "M" out of the way. The film, which won two Oscars and a Golden Globe, was shot in London, Japan, Scotland and Istanbul. The view of the city skyline from the hotel supposedly located in Japan is a montage; it was filmed by the pool of the Canary Riverside Plaza Hotel London. The press conference for the film and some other filming took place at the Çırağan Palace Hotel Kempinski in Istanbul.
Red Sparrow (2018)
The US thriller about ballerina Dominika Egorova, an oligarch, a contract killing and a group of young secret agents is set in Budapest, Moscow, Bratislava, Vienna and London. The Corinthia London, for example, served as the backdrop for the star-studded espionage film, which stars Jennifer Lawrence, Joel Edgerton and Jeremy Irons. The beautiful hotel is located not far from "The Mall" and Buckingham Palace on the River Thames.
White Lotus (2021)
Mike White's series about the fictional hotel chain "White Lotus" scores with exciting characters - such as Jennifer Coolidge as Tanya McQuoid - and even more impressive images. Season one scored top ratings, thanks in part to the beautiful scenery. Filming took place in the fictional White Lotus Hawaii, which in reality is no less a hotel than the extremely classy Four Seasons Maui at Wailea. The second season, which once again has White Lotus guests and all their dramas, trials and tribulations at its center, is set in Sicily. The San Domenico Palace hotel in Taormina, also a Four Seasons property, served as a beautiful backdrop.

Inventing Anna (2022)
The drama mini-series by Shonda Rhimes adapted the true story of Anna Delvey. She posed as a German heiress and rose to the highest circles of the New York jet set. Fraud paved her way. Locations in New York City, Los Angeles and Germany served as filming locations. The 12 George Hotel, which was Anna's (expensive) hideaway for several months, is actually the 11 Howard in the heart of SOHO. In Paris, Anna is staying at the Hotel Gulacsy. However, this is fictional. Filming took place at the Lotte New York Palace Hotel. This is also known from "Gossip Girl". And she spends her vacation in Morocco at La Mamounia
