Luxury tourism in Denmark
Denmark wants more attention at the counter and luxury vacationers in the country
"We don't just want to be active in the vacation home sector," explains Anh Thi Van Ißleib, Marketing & Event Consultant at Visit Denmark. In addition to online training courses, where travel agency employees can already qualify as Denmark specialists, she also wants to introduce travel agency employees to the benefits of the country via newsletters and famtrips in future.
The Danes recently made their presence felt at the Nordic Workshop in Frankfurt: "You can definitely enjoy a luxury vacation here," Kristina Lehmann Schjott, Director Destination Limforden, made clear. This starts with the food: In spring and fall, the region celebrates the opening and closing of the oyster season in Nykobing Mors with events such as oyster and champagne tastings and exclusive VIP cooking courses with Danish chefs. Guests can spend the night in exclusive manor houses such as Strandet Hovedgaard on the Hjarbaek Fjord, which is owned by the Hohenzollern-Prussian family.
On the idyllic island of Fyn (Funen), in the small village of Bovense, visitors can enjoy a different, exquisite tasting experience at the family-run Stokkebye winery. Owner Jacob trained as a butler and has worked in several Michelin restaurants in France and as a private chef at the royal family's wine castle in Cahors. In addition to fine wines, he also sells and tastes caviar and black and white truffles at the winery. Stokkebye is one of the stops on the exclusive, small tour operator Countryside Break run by Sandra Neelmeyer, whose main job is Market Communication Manager Destination Fyn. She promises her guests hand-picked experiences in special places, who travel in their own car or a rented vintage car and receive audio links and explanations along the way.
The 16 Comwell Hotels are spread throughout Denmark. The Danish chain has reached an agreement with Wyndham Hotels & Resorts to open several hotels under the Dolce Hotels and Resorts by Wyndham brand. The first two, Comwell Aarhus, Dolce by Wyndham and Comwell Copenhagen Portside, Dolce by Wyndham, are already welcoming guests. Travel agencies receive a ten percent commission for direct bookings.
