Grand Resort Bad Ragaz: Savoir-vivre made in Switzerland

Longevity & prevention rethought

The Grand Resort Bad Ragaz wants to set new standards with its Tamina Health Concept. CC author Claudia Bette-Wenngatz was able to see this for herself before the official launch.

Health has a long tradition in Bad Ragaz. Since the discovery of Europe's most water-rich thermal spring in 1242, a lot has happened in the small spa town in the Swiss canton of St. Gallen: the Grand Resort, a recreation and health destination since its opening in 1869, has long since embarked on the path to the future and has now developed this further with a very individually designed longevity program. It has been officially available to book since October. The topic of longevity is currently on everyone's lips, here it is offered with Swiss thoroughness and thus put on an individual track.

"We don't have a prefabricated standard method, but a concept that takes a very diverse and individual approach to each guest. 85 percent of them receive personal advice before their arrival. Medical expertise at the highest level and with great confidence in our health center, which has been in existence for around 60 years, is just as important as our 4 pillars for a healthy lifestyle: exercise, nutrition, sleep and mental health. Above these pillars is the task of responding to the individual lifestyle and health issues of each guest. Our experience and the ability to choose from over 200 different treatments and methods helps us to do this," explains Dr. Alexandra Dopplinger, who has been involved in preventative medicine and regenerative concepts for many years. Since the beginning of this year, she has been the medical director of the new, resort-owned Tamina Health Center at the Grand Resort Bad Ragaz and is therefore also responsible for the new Tamina Health concept, which will be launched in October with five new health programs.

Lost in the luxury resort

After arriving at the elegantly styled Grand Hotel Quellenhof, the relatively long walk from the hotel room to the Tamina Health Center is a bit of a challenge. The complex with four luxury hotels, public Tamina thermal baths, medical and spa centers, golf course and casino has many facets that have made the tranquil spa town of Bad Ragaz a destination for celebrities from business, politics and society from all over the world.

Between my appointments and treatments such as medical consultations, a medical massage, personal training, HRV short-term measurement for heart rate variability, body composition test, mindfulness training, movement analysis, traditional Taoist abdominal massage and nutritional advice, I meet numerous Swiss as well as Arab and Far Eastern guests. Many come with their partner or the whole family and appreciate the combination of high-end hotels, multi-generational vacations and gourmet indulgence as well as highly personalized health programmes for prevention, regeneration and sustainable vitality. In addition, there is the natural healing power of the thermal water, e-bike rides and hikes to the mystical Tamina Gorge, where the spring of the same name rises. The opportunities to do something for your health here seem inexhaustible. They range from medical check-ups including MRI, CT, heart and intestinal examinations to dentistry, dermatology and microbiome examinations and are accompanied by mental and sporting diagnostics and therapy, without sacrificing enjoyment: The diet cuisine for detox and weight loss programs is on a gourmet level, as the dishes are created by 3-star chef Sven Wassmer together with nutritionists. As far as longevity is concerned, the new longevity programmes - which can be booked from three to 14 days - include prevention such as regeneration, exercise sessions, mental balance, nutritional analysis, advice and optimization and, above all, awareness-raising for your own individual lifestyle with behavioural training and support beyond your stay. Conclusion: Those who strive for longevity as a health goal at the highest level and are not afraid of the costs can draw on the full potential of the Grand Resort Bad Ragaz.
