Casa del Mare Mediterraneo
Boutique classics with charm & top cuisine
Foodies, individualists, interior lovers and fans of perfectly managed boutique hotels right by the sea.
flaw: the busy coastal road runs between the hotel building and the private beach. However, once you have crossed it unscathed, you are surrounded by heavenly tranquillity and a very atmospheric feel-good ambience, for which two pioneers of the local boutique hotel scene, Nikola and Milena Mili, are responsible. They opened their first hotel, the Mediterraneo, in the Bay of Kotor in 2009 and have opened five more since then. Next year will see the first opening in the mountains.
But back to the 17 rooms, suites and deluxe apartments of the small Mediterraneo: in addition to the stylish ambience and friendly service, the exceptionally wide range of hotel facilities is particularly impressive, from a secluded Zen garden on the roof to a winter garden lounge with fireplace on the ground floor and an atmospheric spa with indoor pool in the basement of the hotel. The Casa Epico pop-up restaurant, where Michelin-starred chef Eros Picco celebrates modern Montenegrin cuisine on an elegantly styled rooftop above the main building, is also open in summer.
However, the two hotel restaurants on the beach are no less delicious and even more promising : while Bocasa serves freshly caught fish, dry-aged steak, stone-oven pizza and local soul food on its rustic wooden tables all day long, upscale cucina Italiana is served right next door at Limoneto. Especially in the evening, when the brightly lit cruise liners glide past on their way back to the open sea and the lights twinkle from the opposite shore, the Limoneto terrace with its centuries-old olive trees is molto romantico - and no less delizioso.
