It is amazing how many resorts have now found their place on Langkawi. The Ritz-Carlton is the only one with villas overlooking the sea. Measuring 200 to 300 m2, they are embedded in the rocky part of the coast or stand on stilts on the shore. Each has an infinity pool and some have beach access. The sand in front of my Beach View Villa is sparse, but I can watch little fish in the transparent water. In the early morning, a monitor lizard even
laps in the shallow sea. It is obviously looking for breakfast. Meanwhile, guests can enjoy an extensive hot and cold buffet at the Langkawi Kitchen in the morning. Philippe Villeroux drew inspiration for the architecture of the spectacular restaurant from longhouses on Borneo. Surrounded by jungle, every table offers a view of the greenery. The Beach Grill" is also a feast for the eyes and the palate. The construction of the pavilions on the beach is reminiscent of traditional fish traps. Freshly caught fish and seafood dominate the menu. The "Hai Yan" with its terrace overlooking the Andaman Sea is also beautiful. It specializes in Chinese fine dining.

Guests from the Far East like to travel with their families. Ritz-Carlton has fully adapted to this, maintains a daycare center and offers child-friendly programs. As a child, however, I could not have imagined a greater adventure than exploring the jungle on the resort grounds - without a chaperone. Of course, that doesn't work here. But there are at least guided tours into the jungle for young and old. For those who prefer to relax rather than explore, the spa is the perfect place. The signature treatment is the "Mandi Bunga Inspired Ritual", which goes back to customs and treatments at Malaysian sultan courts. And truly, after massages with fragrant oils, herbs and flowers, I too feel truly royal.
