The slender skyscraper in the Golden Triangle of Kuala Lumpur, the elevator to the 53rd floor. This is where the hotel begins and extends to the open-air rooftop bar on the 60th floor. First impression: wow! Reflective Limestone tiles on the floor, dark shimmering marble on the wall, seven-meter-high glass walls in between. When I ask reception at check-in which fragrance I would like, a delicate orange scent hangs over my Sanctuary Suite. I am impressed by the stylish bathroom with a bathtub by the window, an almost invisible shower and a separate Japanese toilet. My 90 m2 hideaway also has a relaxation pool with a view of the Petronas Twin Towers. Breakfast is served on the 58th floor - à la carte. At lunchtime and in the evening, the restaurant is transformed into Kuala Lumpur's only steakhouse, where you can sabre lamb fillet or marbled Tomahawk steak from Wagyu beef under the open sky on a terrace.

The "Vertigo" at the Banyan Tree can also boast a superlative: The cocktail bar is the highest in the city. Especially as it also has an open-air deck on top. The panoramic view at night is intoxicating - provided you are not afraid of heights. The Banyan Tree hotel group set standards in terms of luxurious and ecologically sensitive hospitality 30 years ago with its first resort in Phuket. This is also reflected here in Kuala Lumpur in the hotel's charming spa. The holistic approach, based on traditional Asian practices, combined with sustainable products for spa and aromatherapy, has a lasting effect. After my massage, I stroll light-footedly through the heavy tropical air into the Pavilion Mall, which is connected by a bridge. And I am amazed. All the no-frills labels from the fashion, cosmetics, watch and eyewear industries are united here on three floors. One thing is certain: nowhere else in Malaysia can you spend more money on exquisite shopping.
