Vorarlberg
With an area of 2,601 square kilometers, Austria's second smallest federal state, affectionately known as "Ländle", is located in the west of Austria and borders Liechtenstein, Germany and Switzerland. The people of Vorarlberg are particularly known for their own culture and their rich Alemannic dialect.
In summer, Lake Constance and the Bregenzerwald attract numerous nature lovers, while in the cold season, exclusive winter sports destinations such as Lech or St. Anton in Montafon offer high-level skiing fun. The Bregenz Festival, which takes place every summer, is a cultural highlight. Culinary specialties are strongly influenced by Vorarlberg mountain farm cuisine, especially cheese; typical dishes include Krutspätzle and Käsdönnala.
