Victoria
Victoria is the southeasternmost and smallest state in Australia. All too often it is reduced to trendy Melbourne, Phillip Island with its penguin parade, the annual Formula 1 Grand Prix and the spectacular Great Ocean Road. The latter is even said to be the number two most visited attraction on the fifth continent after Ayers Rock. But as a travel destination, green Victoria offers fascinating highlights on the coasts and in the hinterland, some of which are still relatively unknown but absolutely worth experiencing - for example the Wilsons Promontory Coastal National Park, the wildly rugged Shipwreck Coast or the lake and beach landscape around Lakes Entrance. Not forgetting the legendary Bells Beach and Torquay, where Surfingworld, the cult site of the legendary Australian surf scene, is located.
Enjoyment, history and mountains in the interior
Inland, the rugged mountain landscape of the Grampians is a fascinating natural landscape and an Eldorado for hikers and rock climbers, while visitors can breathe in authentic Australian history in the gold mining towns of Bendigo and Ballarat. After all, the rebellion of 200 gold miners in Ballarat in 1854 is regarded as the beginning of Australia's quest for independence.
Gourmets will definitely find what they are looking for in Victoria. The density of good restaurants and pubs is not only particularly high in Melbourne. Wine lovers can visit some of Australia's best wineries in the Yarra Valley or on the Mornington Peninsula and take part in many a wine tasting. Good food and good wine are an indispensable part of the pleasant lifestyle here.
Visitors can really relax in Spa Country, a scenic wellness and well-being region around Daylesford and Hepburn Springs. Like the Spa Country, practically all regions are easily accessible by car from Melbourne.
Scene, chic and sport in the city
If you are a culture lover, you will be even more impressed by Melbourne. The variety of museums, galleries, exhibitions, concerts and theaters is extraordinary. Equally fascinating and exciting are the diverse scenes from chic South Yarra with its designer stores to trendy St. Kilda with its see-and-be-seen promenade and multicultural, alternative Brunswick Street in Fitzroy. And with the Docklands, a chic district has even been created right on the waterfront.
This diversity is what gives the trendy city its special charm. But Melbourne is also at the forefront of sport. Formula 1, the Australian Open and the Melbourne Cup, the most important horse race in the southern hemisphere, are just some of the highlights. Real sports fans should definitely visit the MCG, Melbourne's legendary stadium, for a game of the national sport "Australian Rules Football", where you are right in the thick of Australian life.

Food in Australia - a different take on multiculturalism
Australia's first settlers brought the taste of Britain to Australia in the 18th century. Over the last two hundred years, however, eating habits have changed. The gold rush of 1851 brought adventurers and speculators from all over the world, including thousands of Chinese, who set up successful fruit and vegetable stores and restaurants, introducing new flavors. Today, Australian cuisine is influenced by the large number of immigrants from the Mediterranean, Asia and other countries, reflecting Australia's multicultural society.
