Tyrol - the land of mountains and lakes
The province of Tyrol is located in the west of Austria and is home to the eight highest peaks in Austria. The capital of the province is Innsbruck with the landmark "Goldenes Dach'l" in the old town. The mountain region offers breathtaking panoramas and landscapes in both summer and winter.
Winter sports play a particularly important role and are the most important source of income for tourism. The winter hotspot of Kitzbühel was already a legend in Romy Schneider's day and attracts a great deal of attention, especially during the Hahnenkamm race. Tyrolean cultural destinations include the minting town of Hall, the Cistercian monastery of Stams and the Swarovski Crystal Worlds. Intangible cultural assets are also represented in Tirol: in 2010, the Ötztal dialect was declared a UNESCO cultural heritage site.
