Lanzarote

Lanzarote is often referred to as the black pearl of the Canary Islands, as its volcanic origins make it particularly attractive. The island is generally very dry, but invites beach vacationers in particular to enjoy an unforgettable relaxing trip.

You can still see the volcanic origin of this dry island today. The most severe volcanic eruptions in the island's history took place between 1730 and 1736. During this time, the face of Lanzarote as we know it today was shaped: black lava fields and craters form an almost unreal landscape in some areas, which will add a fascinating touch to your vacation. Lanzarote was even the first complete island to be declared a biosphere reserve by UNESCO in 1993.

A vacation on the extraordinary island of Lanzarote will show you just how rich and artistic the Canary Islands can be.

To get a better understanding of Lanzarote's culture today, it is important to learn about the history of the island and the influences of Lanzarote in the past. Lanzarote, or rather the town of Teguise, is where most of the Canarian culture originated. Various musical instruments, including the timple, a unique five-stringed guitar, emerged from this wonderful tradition and today serves as an accompanying instrument for many traditional dances, as do the castanets. Another town, San Bartolomé, is best known for its folklore music and dance traditions.
