Dubai
Not in Dubai, not in Abu Dhabi and certainly not in Ras al Khaimah. However, today it is no longer just the dreams of 1001 nights, exotic bazaars, bustling souks and deserted deserts that make the Orient so fascinating. Rather, it is an exciting mix of Western modernity and Arab-Oriental flair - garnished with numerous and ever new superlatives. The financial crisis, which has also left its mark on the Emirates, was only able to put a stop to this for a short time. The Emirates swallowed hard two or three times and then continued to strive for the top. Dubai in particular, which only has six percent of the Emirates' oil reserves - there are seven emirates in total - stages itself as a kind of futuristic, urban synthesis of the arts that aims to anticipate the future in terms of living and working, business and leisure.
The Palm Jumeirah, the largest man-made island in the world, Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world, Dubai Mall, the largest shopping mall on the planet, are all just small parts of the bigger picture that will showcase Dubai as a global attraction and world of experience. This also includes projects such as Expo 2020, which is expected to attract 20 million visitors and is already casting its shadow. Following the new luxury hotels on the Palm and in Downtown Dubai, numerous new hotels are also planned here. And the metropolis with its two million inhabitants is doing a lot to make the Dubai experience as uncomplicated and attractive as possible for the guests of these hotels, and family-friendly to boot.
It's not just the world-class shopping and gastronomy scene that is constantly changing. In addition to the metro, the first streetcar line from Dubai Marina to Al Sufouh was launched at the end of 2014. On the beach promenade in the Deira district, the Deira Fish Market was created, where fish auctions have also been held since 2015, and the new 400-hectare Safari Park in Dubai has been home to 1,000 animals from all over the world since the end of 2014/beginning of 2015. The list could go on and on - older attractions, such as the indoor ski slope in the Mall of the Emirates, were just a modest start - and could be expanded to include top-class events. Of course, these are artificial worlds, but they disappear as soon as you leave the metropolises. This is particularly true of Abu Dhabi.
Since 2008, the Palm Jumeirah has offered 100 km more beach off Dubai's coast, and most of the emirate's new luxury resorts have found an ideal beach-front location here.

Restaurants in Dubai - Our insider tips
There are many different food options in Dubai. But there are only a few Dubai food items that you must or should try during your stay in Dubai. Arabic food makes up the majority of food in Dubai. However, there are many expatriates who come from different parts of the world and work in Dubai and still want to live the traditions of their former homeland in Dubai. Therefore, there are different types of restaurants in Dubai that cater to this huge demand.
A creative restaurant scene has emerged in the Arabian Gulf, covering the entire culinary spectrum from authentic street food to fine dining in designer gourmet temples.
Dubai nightlife - party in the hotels
Nightlife in the Emirates takes place mainly in Dubai, while Abu Dhabi has a more informal atmosphere. You can easily turn night into day at beach parties, open-air bars and lounges or in trendy clubs. The venues are usually located in the large hotels - only here is alcohol allowed to be served. Popular venues include Bar and Club Boudoir in Dubai Marina, Zinc Nightclub in the Crowne Plaza and 360° in the Jumeirah Beach Hotel or People by Crystal on the 18th floor of Raffles Hotel.
Dubai leisure - skiing with a difference
Skiing in Dubai is now part of the standard program for every visitor. Because
where else can you ski on real snow in the middle of a desert? There are five different slopes spread over 22,500
square meters. The longest slope, Pist4, is 400 meters long. Skis and suits can of course be hired on site.
Further leisure tips:
If you come to the metropolis in the United Arab Emirates, often referred to as the "city of the day after tomorrow", you will quickly realize that it is much more than a city indulging in gigantism. Dubai reflects on values such as art, design and cultural lifestyle at a very high level. Abu Dhabi may strive to be in the fast lane, but "the music is in Dubai", as we hear time and again. Certainly: Dubai polarizes and it can be summed up as follows: Love it or hate it!
It may come as a surprise to some that Dubai has developed into a true oasis of art as a hub for Asia, Africa and Europe. Art Dubai, which was launched in 2007 and brings together art lovers from all over the world, has made a significant contribution to this. Art Dubai" is part of Art Week, which also includes the "Dubai Design Days". The aim is to establish a dynamic art scene on a global level. A "must visit" for visitors interested in art is the Al Quoz district, which has become home to a young, up-and-coming art scene. Artists have been setting up shop around Alserkal Avenue for some time now, attracted by the low rents in the still somewhat shabby-looking commercial area, which offers little glamor but still has garages and small businesses in corrugated iron halls. Former warehouses offer perfect exhibition space. There are plans to double these creative spaces, which will also showcase media, architecture and fashion design.
The "big player" of the art scene, the German-Iranian Ramin Salsali, is attracting particular attention. The former hedge fund manager from Switzerland runs a non-profit museum with soulful passion. The Salsali Private Museum (SPM) is not only the first private museum for contemporary art in the region, it is also the world's first center for art collectors to offer a commission-free service. Salsali has been awarded the title "Patron of the Art" by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum for the fourth time. The Sheikh, a man of vision, is also behind the mega construction projects, the promotion of tourism and the expansion of Dubai as an international trade and financial center, and not least the ambitious cultural projects. These include the plans to establish a cultural district around the Burj Khalifa with an opera house, a museum of modern art and a number of galleries. Also noteworthy is the "Pavilion Downtown Dubai", an architecturally outstanding "art space" in the city, in which contemporary local and international artists are offered an exhibition and dialog forum. A visit to the Bastakya artists' quarter, which is a listed building, should also be planned. It conveys an authentic impression of historic Dubai. The XVA Gallery is an interesting and renowned venue. Many an "objet trouvé" can be found at the Saturday market for arts and crafts.
