Brandenburg

The state of Brandenburg is located in the transition zone between the oceanic climate in Western Europe and the continental climate in the east. Due to the relatively small differences in altitude, the climatic differences within the state are rather small, but can be felt in certain weather conditions.

The average annual temperature is around 9 °C. The coldest month is January with an average of -1 °C. The warmest month is July with an average temperature of 18 °C.

With an average annual precipitation of less than 600 mm, Brandenburg is one of the driest federal states, perhaps even the one with the least precipitation. The average annual precipitation is usually around 550 mm. Only Prignitz in the northwest, closer to the North Sea, receives more than 600 mm of precipitation per year. A slight rain shadow is noticeable to the east of the highlands, which is somewhat more noticeable in the extremely low-lying Oderbruch. With less than 500 mm of annual precipitation, the Oderbruch is one of the driest regions in Germany. Precipitation throughout the region falls mainly in the summer months, while winter and spring are comparatively dry. Nevertheless, pronounced dry spells can occur in the summer months, which greatly increase the risk of forest fires.

The sun shines for an average of around 1600 hours a year. Brandenburg is considered a sunny federal state.

Music
The Brandenburg Symphony Orchestra, founded in 1871, is the oldest existing orchestra in the state and one of Brandenburg's outstanding cultural institutions. With their events, they are an important part of Brandenburg's cultural life. Their regularly sold-out symphony concerts and special concerts are fixed program items in the cultural life of the entire region. The orchestra not only performs as a symphony orchestra, but also in opera performances and has played in the opera productions of the Rheinsberg Castle Chamber Opera for many years. The Brandenburg Symphony Orchestra regularly performs in Berlin (Konzerthaus, Philharmonie), Potsdam (Nikolaisaal), Frankfurt/Oder (Kleistforum), Stendal (Theater der Altmark) and other cities in the state of Brandenburg, but also makes guest appearances throughout Germany and abroad. Guest performances have taken the orchestra to the USA, Japan, South Africa, Spain and China. The Brandenburg Symphony Orchestra is a regular guest at the Festival Música Mallorca in Palma de Mallorca.
Founded in 1997, the Jacaranda Ensemble is a German instrumental ensemble made up of five musicians and soloists from the Brandenburg Symphony Orchestra. The ensemble aims to build a bridge between the cultures of the world with its music. Concert tours have taken the Jacaranda Ensemble throughout Europe, the USA and Asia. In 2013, the Jacaranda Ensemble was awarded the Brandenburg State Prize for the Promotion of the Arts by the Brandenburg State Government.
