Berne
In terms of size and population, the canton of Bern does not come close to Graubünden, but in both cases the region in the Swiss Plateau is at least a proud second place. But the canton of Bern is still in a class of its own! It has the largest north-south spread and almost one in seven Swiss people live here. It also shares a border with a total of eleven cantons. But it is above all the nature and surroundings that make this region so unique. Three of the most famous Alpine peaks, namely the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau, can be found on the canton's territory, while the gentle hills of the Mittelland region follow in the north, rising up to the Jura mountains in the northwest.
