Barbados

Barbados is part of the Lesser Antilles and only 430 square kilometers in size, but this in no way diminishes the island's magic. The British-Portuguese-influenced vacation destination impresses with turquoise blue, clear water, white sandy beaches, a diverse culture and warm hosts. It was the Portuguese who christened the island "Barbados" in the 15th century. The old town of the capital Bridgetown is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and divers and nature lovers will also get their money's worth in the many protected areas and national parks. Only a few hectares of the former tropical rainforest, which almost completely covered the island, remain today, with the majority having to make way for sugar cane plantations.
