The Black Forest is a region of indulgence. So it is not surprising that the Black Forest people are particularly proud of their "Vesper". This is a tasty snack that can be eaten at any time of day or night and consists of light farmhouse bread, black pudding and liver sausage, Black Forest bacon and ham. It is served with parsley, onion rings, pickled gherkins and tomatoes. A Black Forest cherry, plum, pear or raspberry water is served as a digestif.
From the Baden region comes the Baden wedding soup, the Baden snail soup, the pike dumpling soup or the Baden potato soup. Flädlesuppe, known as Fritatten in eastern Austria, is a well-seasoned meat broth with strips of pancake as a garnish for the soup.
Black Forest cuisine includes both meat and fish dishes. Fine roast beef, Schäufele (pork shoulder) or boiled beef brisket are served with potatoes or spaetzle. The famous spaetzle are traditionally scraped from the board into the hot water. Trout, pike and zander are served along rivers and lakes.
Hearty meat platters are a tradition in rustic restaurants. Such a platter includes black pudding and liver sausage, boiled meat, bacon and potatoes. If that's not hearty enough for you, you can enjoy typical Swabian-Baden dishes with offal such as sour tripe, sour kidneys or chopped liver.
When autumn arrives, many restaurants offer game specialties. The menus then include, for example, "Hasenpfeffer" or the world-famous "Rehrücken Baden-Baden".
During the grape harvest, warm onion tart is served everywhere - with or without bacon. It is accompanied by new wine (Suser). Speaking of wine: the Baden wine landscape is the third largest wine-growing region in Germany. Ortenau, Breisgau, Kaiserstuhl, Tuniberg and Markgräflerland are the names of the areas in which the vines thrive particularly well and this is also the world of pleasure for winegrowers and their guests.
For those with a sweet tooth, the Black Forest is not only home to the world-famous Black Forest gateau, but also various fruit cakes and the famous Apfelküchle (apple cakes). Apfelküchle are apple rings dipped in pancake batter and then fried in hot fat.

Pure relaxation
The thermal and medicinal water springs offer those seeking relaxation the perfect setting for relaxation and wellness. In Badenweiler, Bad Herrenalb, Bad Wildbad, Bad Krozingen, Bad Rotenfels, Bad Liebenzell and Bad Bellingen there are thermal baths that invite you to relax.
Baden-Baden is known for its entertainment and cultural offerings. The city is steeped in history and hosts the famous festival. "Faites vos jeux" is the motto in the magnificent ambience of the Baden-Baden casino.

Experience sporting diversity

Water sports enthusiasts will find their happiness on and in the numerous lakes of the Black Forest. Diving or windsurfing, the Titisee and Schluchsee leave almost nothing to be desired.
Whether short circular hiking trails or challenging routes - the attractive hiking routes through the low mountain range are suitable for a variety of conditions and requirements. Families in particular get their money's worth on the themed trails. This makes hiking an entertaining experience for young and old alike. If you visit the Black Forest in winter, you can indulge in winter sports. There are great ski areas around the Feldberg, Hinterzarten and Kaltenbronn.

Cultural exploration
Hands-on history from the Black Forest region can be found in the Vogtsbauernhof open-air museum in Gutach on the Black Forest Railway. Farmhouses from the 16th and 17th centuries were demolished elsewhere and rebuilt at their current location. In the traditional costume museum in Haslach im Kinzigtal, you can see all kinds of traditional costumes from the surrounding area. The monastery complex of the Capuchin Order, which houses the museum, is also well worth a visit.
