Maldives

Located in the middle of the Indian Ocean, during the Covid pandemic, the Maldives was both a destination of longing and a safe haven. To ensure that this does not change, the island nation has taken extensive precautions in the interests of its vacation guests.

White beaches, turquoise blue water and a unique location far away from everyday life, yet easily and conveniently accessible: The Maldives with its 26 atolls and almost 1,200 islands is a true paradise on earth! This is especially true for the 100 or so hotel islands, all of which can offer their guests maximum seclusion, privacy and exclusivity, even in times like these. Thanks to the "one island, one resort" concept, which enables easy contact tracing and greatly reduces the risk of infection, most of the resorts were able to remain open last winter. During this exceptional season, a lot of valuable experience was gained and effective programs of measures were developed that have proven their worth. So it's no wonder that the "World's leading destination of 2020" (World Travel Awards) is looking ahead to the summer with optimism - and is also living up to its pioneering role in terms of hygiene, health and safety.

Ready for the islands? Nothing stands in the way of a carefree vacation in the Maldives - from day one: Guests arriving with a negative PCR test (not older than 96 hours) and the "Online Health Declaration" completed online in advance will receive a 30-day visa and do not need to go into quarantine. Arrive and relax with a good feeling!

Good to know: Even people who have already been vaccinated must be able to present the test and the form. The only other requirement for everyone: The stay in the Maldives must be in government-registered and approved accommodation (applies to almost all luxury resorts in the country). In addition, the following applies: "Safety first!" And just like at home, this means washing and disinfecting your hands frequently and keeping a safe distance of 1 m from people who are not part of your travel group.

-- Thanks to the "National Covid-19 Vaccination Program" launched at the beginning of February, over 330,000 Maldivian residents have already been vaccinated with the first dose. A figure that is among the best in the world. The vaccination rate for employees in the tourism sector is already over 90 percent. Within the next six months, the entire population should be fully vaccinated - and Covid-19 should largely be a thing of the past.
