Hotel Schneider ****Superior
The 4-star Superior Hotel Schneider is situated directly beside the Gamsleitenbahn in Obertauern—where skiing, a tranquil ambience, and the hotel’s own farm coalesce to form the perfect union.
Perched at approximately 1,750 meters above sea level, the resort occupies one of Austria’s most snow-assured domains. More than 100 kilometers of meticulously groomed pistes and 26 lifts grant access to the majestic peaks encircling the town, where winter typically reigns from late November to early May. Twice each week, night skiing transforms the slopes into an exhilarating adventure even after sunset. Those who prefer a more leisurely pace can explore the snow-covered landscape on snowshoes, during a horse-drawn sleigh ride, or on a toboggan. The possibilities for enjoying winter are as diverse as the mountains themselves.

a different kind of retreat begins
. The 70 rooms and suites combine alpine charm with contemporary comfort. Swiss stone pine and reclaimed spruce wood—some sourced locally—create a warm, natural atmosphere. In the spacious suites, your retreat becomes a private oasis of well-being: complete with a bathtub, mountain views, and, depending on the category, your own sauna. Here, you can let the day wind down slowly—gazing at the peaks, with a good book, or simply in peace and quiet.
Spanning approximately 750 square meters, the wellness area invites you to take a deep breath. An indoor pool, whirlpool, various saunas, a steam room, and relaxation rooms offer respite after an active day in the snow. In the Room of Silence or in the residence garden, the stresses of everyday life fade into the distance. Those seeking more social moments will find them in the library, in intimate nooks, or by the crackling fireplace with their favorite drink. Families are also welcome: children and teens have their own play areas where new friendships form quickly.
The Best, Personalized Service
In the evening, what truly sets the hotel apart—beyond its perfect location—becomes clear: the personal touch of the host family. Lisa Schneider is the third generation to run the hotel, together with her family and about 50 employees. What began as a small guesthouse has grown into a hotel that combines tradition with modern comfort without losing sight of its roots. These roots extend all the way to the Brettsteinalm on the Hintergottschallgut estate in Radstadt, where, among other things, Pinzgau cattle are raised. Meat and milk from the farm’s own holdings make their way to the hotel kitchen, complemented by products from regional producers. In the kitchen, these ingredients are transformed into a gourmet half-board experience that marries flavour with provenance. Here, regionality is not merely a buzzword—it is a lived conviction, paired with a commitment to treating nature and resources with respect.
