Safe and environmentally conscious in the Maldives

Kandima Maldives is developing a new environmental concept and provides its guests with a clinic staffed by German doctors.

While many trends quickly go out of fashion again, the topics of environmental protection and safety are remarkably consistent when it comes to vacation planning. Many people think mainly of their own country or Europe. However, the lifestyle resort Kandima Maldives shows that sustainability and safety are also very important in a tropical paradise. The recycling of waste water and glass is standard at Kandima, as is the composting of all food waste.

State-of-the-art technology helps to keep the carbon footprint as low as possible while maximizing energy efficiency. A dedicated energy management system in the hotel rooms immediately switches to an environmentally friendly energy-saving program when you leave your room. And even if a room is not used for a longer period of time, the system ensures optimum air and temperature balance. In addition, the hot water required in the resort and the energy for the air conditioning systems is generated from renewable sources.

Last but not least, the Kandima does not use paper. Guests receive a modern RFID wristband at check-in, which they can use to make cashless payments in the numerous restaurants and bars. At the same time, the food and drinks are displayed interactively on tablets or the new Kandima app rather than on conventional menu cards. The app enables 24/7 support from Kandima Krew. It can also be used to continue watching movies on your own cell phone or tablet outside the bedroom.

"Safety first" has been the motto at the latest since the start of the cooperation with ResortDoc and the opening of its own clinic, where doctors from Germany treat guests and employees of the resort as well as locals from neighbouring islands. Resort employees are trained under the professional guidance of the doctors so that they are ideally equipped to deal with medical emergencies.

The Medical Center at Kandima Maldives is operated by the resort itself. The ResortDoc organization in turn provides support with logistics and the procurement of state-of-the-art medical technology such as ultrasound and X-ray equipment, and provides doctors who wish to contribute and expand their medical expertise abroad. The work on site is carried out independently by each doctor, and the treatments are free of charge for resort employees and locals. Thanks to the only hyperbaric chamber in Dhaalu Atoll, diving accidents in particular can be treated professionally.

The clinic fundamentally increases the safety awareness of both guests, especially families and senior citizens, and employees. In the event of an emergency, there is no need for long transportation to the main island of Malé. In addition to general and emergency medicine, the medical center also offers dental treatment - and not only in Kandima. As part of the CSR project "Kandima Smiles", a German dentist travels to the neighboring island of Maaeboodhoo and treats over 60 children there, some of whom have never seen a dentist before.
