"Ciao Jesolo": The perfect crime novel for the beach
CC met the author Nadia Weiss for an interview
Murder alert in Jesolo
Nadia Weiss presents "Ciao Jesolo", the second volume in her crime series about journalist Ambra Santoro and Commissario Vincenzo Vialli. A conversation about the charm of the Adriatic and the allure of crime. Available from March 11 !
With "Arrivederci Jesolo", you celebrated your debut as a crime novelist and made it onto the bestseller list from a standing start. Did you expect that?
It's still a bit surreal that a passion actually became a reality. The second volume is out now and I'm already working on the third. I've been devouring crime novels since I was a child, and now I can finally immerse myself for weeks in a story I've written.
How did you come up with the location, or should we say crime scene, Jesolo?
I know Jesolo from my earliest memories. I must have read many thrillers on a deckchair there. One day I realized that there wasn't one set in Jesolo. So I started writing.
Has Jesolo changed since your childhood days?
The nice thing is that, on the one hand, it has become very modern in the best sense, but has managed to retain its identity as an innocent vacation spot with a beach like a giant sandbox. As a crime writer, I only trust the image of innocence to a certain extent, of course, which makes things really interesting.
"Ciao Jesolo" is set in the glamping milieu, among other things? A trend that inspires you too?
During my research, I was amazed at the comfortable facilities, especially in Jesolo Pineta. I prefer beach hotels myself, preferably surrounded by pine trees and just a few steps from the sea.'
Your main characters are an ex-miss-Jesolo and journalist, as well as a dashing Commissario. Is a little amore also a game?
Under the Jesolo sun, it's not just the Prosecco that sparkles with the aperitivo. But there are also dark secrets, which in the new case not only deal with love, but also with beauty and the longevity trend.
The film adaptation of Donna Leon's Commissario Brunetti has thrilled an audience of millions. Wouldn't it be time for a Jesolo crime thriller on television?
In fact, there is already a concrete request. So it remains exciting. "
