The Maldives is the official guest country of ITB Berlin 2027 and will showcase its scenic beauty, diversity and hospitality to the international travel industry.

The partnership was officially sealed during ITB Berlin 2026: Ibrahim Shiuree, CEO and Managing Director of Visit Maldives (MMPRC), and Dr. Mario Tobias, CEO of Messe Berlin, signed the contract at a photo opportunity.

"We are delighted that 10 years after its first appearance, the Maldives is once again in the spotlight as Guest of Honour at ITB Berlin. This long-standing partnership underlines the importance of ITB Berlin as a global platform and the high status of the Maldives in the international tourism industry . In 2027, we want to showcase the extraordinary beauty and diversity of the Maldives and at the same time demonstrate how tourism and sustainability successfully go hand in hand," explained Dr. Mario Tobias, CEO of Messe Berlin.

Island world with global appeal

With more than 1,000 islands, turquoise lagoons, white sandy beaches and colorful coral reefs the Maldives is one of the most famous long-haul destinations in the world. As Guest of Honour at ITB Berlin 2027, the island nation wants to showcase the diversity of its tourism offering - from luxury and boutique resorts to diving and water sports experiences, wellness retreats and cultural encounters. Sustainability remains a central component of the tourism strategy, for example through initiatives to protect marine ecosystems and support local communities.

"ITB Berlin offers us the ideal platform to present the unique offerings of our islands to travelers from all over the world. We look forward to welcoming the international tourism industry to Berlin and showcasing the diversity, quality and hospitality that characterize the Maldives as a destination," said Ibrahim Shiuree, CEO and Managing Director of Visit Maldives.
