New hideaway on Santorini

Istoria

Nestled in the lush landscape of the Cycladic island of Santorini lies the latest luxury retreat: Istoria, a 12-suite hideaway on the beach of Perivolos. Elegant and contemporary best describes the aesthetic design of this hotel, where storytelling is part of the concept. The Design Hotels™ Originals Kalia and Antonis Eliopoulos reflect the island's history at every turn. A masterpiece of hospitality in the Aegean Sea...

Located right on Perivolos Beach in Santorini's southeast, the Istoria is like a fantasy come true. The property combines the vibe of the location with the unique aura of the 12 understatedly designed suites. The three-kilometre-long dark sandy beach, formed by the eruption of Santorini's volcano, stretches right next to the resort. Here, and in the crystal-clear water, you will find relaxation and tranquillity away from the trendy surrounding nightlife and restaurant scene. Away from the congested lanes on the west side and already deeply rooted in the neighborhood, Istoria has developed a beach concept that allows its guests to participate in the island's activities while still offering a quiet retreat. The selection of curated explorations and experiences by locals, such as horseback riding or cycling, exude the Santorini way of life.

The concept of storytelling goes hand in hand with the idea of community. The Istoria offers all guests enough space and time to take a deep breath and write their own stories. The name of the hotel comes from the Greek word for "story", so it is no wonder that the proper names of the 12 suites are also always called "story" in other languages. Thanks to its sense of intimacy, relaxation and comfort, the refuge is a home away from home. This vision was realized by the Athens-based team from Interior Design Laboratorium and the result is a Santorini property based on traditional architecture - paired with contemporary aesthetics that flow through all areas.

The design of the Istoria is an eclectic blend of Mediterranean influences. Rustic materials - such as various terracotta, wood and concrete elements that spice up the rooms - alternate with sleek modern furniture. These include consoles with marble surfaces and low-hanging ceramic lamps in the rooms. Decorative elements such as oversized stone jugs are reminiscent of the island's past - black sand, olive trees, herbs and aloe vera reflect the richness of nature. Cozy corners, alcoves and, above all, traditionally made textiles and woolen blankets radiate softness and warmth.

The 12 suites are divided into five categories, vary from 40 to 50 square meters and make the Istoria a luxurious "must visit" with their sophisticated furnishings. These include the private terraces or gardens with pool and/or jacuzzi, which turn each suite into an oasis. The ambience in the restored building is authentically Greek with its dominant arches, thick brickwork and traditional mosaic floors. Even the most discerning traveler will feel at home here...

Regardless of the search for peace and relaxation, the Istoria offers plenty of amenities. The almost 80-metre-long swimming pool invites you to swim laps, sunbathe on soft lounge chairs with a view of the mountains and the pool bar team provides cool refreshments or a snack in between. Elsewhere, Noma alumni Alexandros Tsiotinis is at the stove, serving modern Greek and Mediterranean cuisine in the restaurant (40 seats). Clearly... with the best that the island has to offer seasonally and that the fishermen pull out of the Aegean on the same day. A visit to the luxury spa, whether for a facial or a body treatment with Ila Spa products and a mix of Asian-inspired essential oils, should definitely be planned for complete relaxation.
