Birthday celebrations: 150 years of Budapest

Budapest celebrates the 150th anniversary of the unification of Buda, Pest and Old Buda in 2023. The unification took place in 1873 and marked the birth of a metropolis: Budapest. In just a few decades, the small city grew into one of the largest, most populous and most modern cities in Europe.
The 150th anniversary celebrations will begin in 2023 and extend until early 2024 and will include iconic sites of the city. The renovation of the Chain Bridge will be completed this year to allow pedestrians to walk across Budapest's iconic bridge. On Budapest's actual birthday, November 17, guests and visitors will be able to taste the specially developed "Budapest 150 Cake", made by contemporary confectioners from ingredients that were available 150 years ago.
