The taste of Swiss cities

Cuisine as a tourism trend

Switzerland Tourism (ST) launches "Taste my Swiss City"
culinary tours in eleven cities, easily bookable online. The new product has been put together by locals especially for tourists. This product development meets a central need of guests to discover culinary delights through the eyes of the "locals". Daniela from Ascona has a favorite gelateria. It's called "La Preferita" and is located in a small side street. There are 40 varieties to choose from - all homemade. The small store has been a magnet for locals for many years. Thanks to ST, guests can now also discover the insider tip "La Preferita".

Discover regional cuisine and specialties
and tasting is the third most important activity for tourists in Switzerland, accounting for 29.7 % of all mentions (according to TMS 2017*). This result confirms the international trend that culinary delights are becoming increasingly important to tourists and that guests want to see their vacation destination through the eyes of the locals. This is why ST's product developers have launched the new "Taste My Swiss City" offer together with eleven cities. These are culinary city tours put together by locals and insiders. This gives guests the opportunity to experience real insider tips and discover Swiss cities in a gastronomic way. The offer is to be developed, optimized and evaluated in an initial phase over three years.

Authentic experiences - centrally presented.
For example, the in-house bistro in the Skills Park on the Sulzer site in Winterthur. Insider Katja likes the fact that she can watch the skateboarders and BMX riders perform their tricks while drinking her coffee. In Neuchâtel, the Boulangerie Mäder awaits on the food tour. According to local Guillaume, the quality of the bakery's own bread is hard to beat. Ludmilla from Lugano says much the same. She loves the risotto at the cozy Ristorante Soave 10, where the hot dishes are always freshly prepared and adapted to the season. People like Ludmilla, Guillaume, Katja and Daniela have each put together up to seven restaurants, bars, bistros or cafés in their cities to create a culinary city tour. This means that these experiences are absolutely authentic and do not follow any logistical or thematic brackets, but allow discoveries and insights into the lives of the "locals". Thanks to ST's product development, these tours are being presented on a central online platform throughout Switzerland for the first time. Upon presentation of a ticket, guests are served a tasting snack at each stop, which can also be a drink. At the end of the tour, the guest has tasted specialties on the scale of a menu, discovered unusual restaurants and moved around in the process. The tour takes around two to three hours on foot and is not guided. Price: between 60 and 130 francs, depending on the type of stops. Bookable from 8 May 2018 for the cities of Basel, Bellinzona, Bern, La Chaux-de-Fonds, Lausanne, Locarno/Ascona, Lugano, Lucerne, Neuchâtel, Vevey/Montreux and Winterthur. www.MySwitzerland.com/tastemyswisscity
