Culinary hotspot on the "happy lake"
Traunseehotels invite you to the Salzkammergut
The FELIX gourmet festival is not the only thing that makes the Salzkammergut a fixed star for connoisseurs: top gastronomy plus the highest level of comfort in the Traunseehotels.
With Monika and Wolfgang Gröller, the third generation of hotel professionals is already at work: the two not only run the four-star superior hotel Das Traunsee directly on the banks of the lake of the same name, but also the four-star hotel Die Post am See, just a few meters away, as well as the 400-year-old "Bauernhaus Dörfl in der Straß", which has been renovated to the latest standards - in the middle of the Hongar-Höllengebirge nature reserve, and yet only 15 minutes from Traunkirchen. Anyone staying at Das Traunsee directly on the shore will be rewarded with far-reaching views over the lake and the mighty Traunstein towering behind it - from the sauna, from the rooms (tip: book one of the twelve new suites with a day bed and panoramic windows or a suite with direct lake access! Speaking of the restaurant: the absolute highlight for gourmet fans is the fine dining restaurant Das Bootshaus, which has been awarded four toques and where top chef Lukas Nagl is at the helm. If you want to dine here, you should book well in advance, as the restaurant is currently fully booked around two months in advance. But don't worry: Chef Nagl is also responsible for the culinary creations at the Hotel Post am See's restaurant, Poststube 1327. And there is also a view of the lake for everyone who checks in here. www.dastraunsee.at
■ Book for 2023: GOURMETFESTIVAL FELIX
Culinary evenings with the Traunsee innkeepers, a dumpling or vintage car roast, an Easter market on the town hall square in Gmunden, coffee workshops: Variety is a top priority at the Felix gourmet festival. Every year, top chefs from all over Austria cook up a storm in the Salzkammergut. The event entered its third round in 2022, with top chefs such as Paul Ivic (Tian), Haya Molcho (NENI) and Max Stiegl (Gut Purbach) taking part. Hotelier Wolfgang Gröller is delighted that gastronomy must remain exciting, which is why the aim is to bring exceptional chefs to the Salzkammergut. A pleasure for everyone involved: Felix was awarded the Notos Tourism Prize.

■ MAX STIEGL
Gault & Millau named him Chef of the Year 2021 and his creativity earned him a Michelin star: Max Stiegl and his Purbach estate in Burgenland stand for the complete utilization of pork. His motto is that meat is too valuable to waste. For over ten years, Max Stiegl has been hosting his "Sautanz" event in winter, the traditional slaughter festival: in the morning, a pig is slaughtered in front of everyone and cooked in its entirety over the course of the day. Grammeln, sausages, roast pork and much more are then served. Dates 2022: 19.11., 26.11., 3.12., 10.12. www.gutpurbach.at
