Restaurant tip: Marcus at Baha Mar
Soulfood in Nassau
Chef Marcus Samuelsson is one of the most important restaurant gurus in the USA. Born in Ethiopia and raised in Sweden, he reinterpreted soul food in New York's Harlem district. His empire now comprises 13 restaurants from Las Vegas to Stockholm. In the exclusive Baha Mar (Bahamas), where Crown Prince William and his Kate also paid a visit, he named a restaurant royally after himself.
Guests overlook the hotel bay from here and enjoy fresh Bahamian ingredients. The menu includes croquettes made from the giant conch, grouper with coconut rice and fresh lobster with plantains in rum glaze. Excellent cocktail creations bring a good mood to the table. "Versailles" consists of pisco, Chartreuse and orange powder, "So Can Princess" of rum, coconut cream and yuzu. Romance ensues when guests stroll along the colorfully lit jetty to the beach in the moonlight.
