Castel Badia
On a hill between the valleys of South Tyrol and the peaks of the Dolomites, a very special place reveals itself. A place that preserves thousands of years of history and where past and present enter into a magical dialog. Castel Badia - in German Sonnenburg - officially opened its doors in December 2025 as a refuge for upscale hotels.
The 11th century castle is located near Brunico/Bruneck at the foot of the Kronplatz/Plan de Corones ski area. Originally a Benedictine monastery, it was inhabited by noble abbesses who practiced spirituality and ancient arts.
Today, 28 rooms and suites as well as a chalet are available for guests. Historical elements blend with natural materials and contemporary design. Soft tones, warm wood and natural light create a feeling of quiet intimacy, while bathtubs with panoramic views, private saunas and hammams provide valuable retreats. The chalet offers maximum comfort on three levels and with a terrace, mountain view and private garden.
Protected by ancient stone walls, the spa pampers you with the ancient knowledge of medicinal herbs, which come directly from the revitalized apothecary garden. Heated outdoor pools overlooking the mountains offer majestic views.
Chef Alberto Toè's cuisine strikes a wonderful balance between wildness and security, instinct and technique, memory and vision. Meals are served at a communal table - a place for encounters and new connections.
