As early as the beginning of the 19th century, travelers discovered the miraculous effects of the thermal baths in Leukerbad, whose healing spring was already well known to the ancient Romans as Balnea Leucensia. Opened in 1834, the 5-star superior hotel quickly became a destination for British travel pioneers, nature lovers and alpinists. Artists, aristocrats and high society families also enjoyed extensive baths, the climate and the breathtaking scenery here.
