Grand Hotel LES TROIS ROIS

2nd place: An institution in the heart of Basel: Les Trois Rois is as much a part of the city as soccer and carnival. Breathe in history at this multi-award-winning hotel.

The year is 1754: the landlord Johann Christoph has three wooden royal figures attached to the façade of the 'Drei Könige' inn as a symbol of the inn. The figures still adorn the façade of the 5-star superior hotel, which has been renovated true to the original and furnished with attention to historical detail. As one of the oldest city hotels in Europe, the hotel in the heart of Basel's old town can now boast a guest list that resembles a who's who of politics, art and culture. Thomas Mann found the hotel too expensive, Casanova enjoyed himself with the landlord's daughters and Hans Christian Andersen liked the view - anyone staying at this luxury hotel is in the best of company.

Art Oho!

The love for the detailed architecture of yesteryear even earned the hotel its own illustrated book from the Society for Swiss Art History.

The 82 rooms and suites in the historic main building at Blumenrain 8 and the newly designed head building at Blumenrain 2 combine the best of two worlds: classically elegant rooms with historic details meet contemporary design and breathtaking architecture.

The Suite des Rois is the showpiece and is made to exceed expectations: Two bedrooms, luxurious bathrooms, a private gym, a dining room for eight people and a convertible lounge with bar create an exceptionally stylish temporary home.

Another highlight: above the rooftops of the city, a sanctuary opens up far away from everyday life: Seijaku - designed by the renowned architecture firm Herzog & de Meuron - is more than just a retreat, it is an experience of Japanese mindfulness culture. Gentle warmth, soothing vapors and an atmosphere of perfect silence accompany you on the path to new balance and deep regeneration.

Enjoyment events and business talks

If you find your way out of your amazing hotel room, why not pay a visit to the Les Trois Rois bar and end a perfect day in an imperial setting with award-winning cocktails in front of the crackling fireplace. Enjoy exquisite dishes of French haute cuisine in the Cheval Blanc by Peter Knogl restaurant - awarded 3 Michelin stars and 19 points by Gault & Millau - the charm of the authentic French brasserie or visit the newly opened Banks restaurant with its European-Asian inspired sharing concept, a place for all those who are looking for something special. The new Salle des Rois on the second floor of Blumenrain 2 combines light, elegance and subtle opulence. Thanks to flexible partition walls, the hall can be divided into three separate rooms - Caspar, Melchior and Balthasar - or used as an impressive whole. Whether for a stylish dinner, an inspiring conference or a lavish party - this is where rooms are made to measure.
