Aries Hotel
2nd place: A house with character and personality: when design icons meet 700 years of history, the hymns of praise are never far away.
Unique living
The Widder Hotel is more than just a hotel, it is a treasure of the Swiss luxury hotel industry that is waiting to be discovered. You will discover traces of 700 years of history in all the guest rooms and suites: Nine historic townhouses, individually furnished, carefully arranged and refined with exquisite treasures from 20th century design icons such as Adolf Loos and Frank Lloyd Wright - the choice of room is extremely difficult at the 5-star deluxe hotel. Architect Tilla Theus spent 10 years collecting art and furniture, adding Eileen Gray here and Mies van der Rohe there - the result is a delight with high-quality fabrics, stylish frescoes and grisaille paintings. For those who can't decide whether cool grandeur or historic wooden beams are the right choice for sleeping, we recommend the lifestyle suites furnished with elegant interiors by designers such as Charles & Ray Eames - once you've stood under the rain shower with its light frame, you won't be getting out any time soon! There is even more art right outside your room door: the private collection throughout the hotel features original works by Andy Warhol, Robert Rauschenberg and Alberto Giacometti.
Cosmopolitan cuisine
Boucherie, brasserie, bistro - AuGust combines all of these in one restaurant. The menu features excellent meat and sausage specialties. The ambience is rustic yet chic, in which chef Daniel Käser makes the classics of regional cuisine and even almost forgotten meat dishes restaurant-ready again. In the Zur Schtund restaurant, typical Swiss dishes are on the menu at attractive prices: raclette and rösti, tarte flambée and fondue. In the rustic and cozy Widder Bar, world-famous jazz stars have played and enjoyed the magnificent selection of whisky. Following the most extensive refurbishment in the hotel's history, the Widder Bar & Kitchen now extends over two floors and combines the bar with an open kitchen and a casual dining area on the second floor. Stefan Heilemann took over the Widder Restaurant in June 2020. The exceptional talent quickly established himself as one of the best chefs in Switzerland when he was awarded 2 Michelin stars straight away in 2016. He also received 18 Gault Millau points, many words of praise from experts and the 2021 Chef of the Year award.
In summer, the bar is moved to the garden paradise in the Widder Hotel courtyard and guests are treated to cool cocktails and trendy summer drinks in the Summer Lounge. Alpine chic and winter magic "at its best" in the glass pavilion: while the snowflakes dance outside over the rooftops of Zurich, Ruinart and the Widder Hotel create a casually relaxed atmosphere in the IGLOO that melts any ice. After all, what could be cozier on a cold winter evening than enjoying a glass of Ruinart champagne in the romantic light of the lanterns as a couple or with friends over a hearty raclette?
